Google Pixel XL - Preorder /order/shipping thread

Didn't order until black Friday, so June is probably a realistic expectation for me. I haven't read through the whole thread, so excuse me if this has been asked (which I'm sure it has) but how is it possible that Apple can launch a phone with lines for blocks outside of the buildings and millions of pre-orders without running out of phones, and Google/HTC can't get it right months after release? This really makes no sense to me. Oh well, it will be worth the wait at least.

I ordered on black Friday as well for $25/month for 128gb xl. I was qualified for "jump the line" due to rep's mistake, so that could have played a part, but I got my phone yesterday - finally... Original order was on 10 /19

I'm happy for you, and extremely jealous at the same time. Is it as good as it should be?

It's very smooth. Not as slick as the note 7, but I'm sure I'll get used to its blandness. As long as it does what I need it to, and well, I'll be satisfied. I just finished setting it up, and laying out Nova launcher - now it's time to getting used to the device.
Good luck with your wait, I hope it's not too long

Well color me disappointed. After messing around with this phone I have been antagonizing about for damn near two months - its OK! IT is NOT magical. The note 7 beats it in ever almost every test I can try. opening apps, occasionally the pixel beats the note 7. The quadrant standard isn't even close. 43K vs 30K. The pixel does feel very snappy going screen to screen but in most head to head opening apps or doing tasks it looses to the note 7. The exchange mail app SUX on the pixel and is nearly unusable. I have been lost working all day today trying to figure out what the heck is going on with my email communications - I am lost. The Pixel camera that was supposed to be soooo awesome is maybe 2 to 8 % better. Battery life seems way better on the pixel but I am saying an all day phone vs all day thru breakfast charge. Since I always charge at night this isn't super impressive. Still shots are a toss up at best and in most cases the note 7 looks as good or better. I can not zoom in anywhere near as far into the pixel pics as the note. The Pixel stops where the resolution gets grainy and the note lets me push in as far as I want. The pixel did do better with lower light situations when taking stills of my son. All of them were blurry because the little guy never sits still. Note 7 very blurry Pixel still blurry but more detail. I have to say I am disappointed. I took the sim of the pixel and popped it into the note and it still works. Not sure if there is any way to get Verizon to let me return the pixel and keep the note but I am seriously considering trying this option. Unless somehitng happens that makes the pixel look awesome so far I am very underwhelmed. Oh and this happened too - the super awesome pixel charger successfully charged this phone once - then died. Now using old Sammy charger to keep the pixel powered up.

Oh and the google assistant - WOW is it useful. OK maybe not. Trying to set up my phone I asked OK google how can l see number of texts notifications in badge on text app - and it took me to an apple thread. All the assistant does is google searches.

You obviously want the bells and whistles of a Samsung. Like any purchase on the planet. Your mileage may vary. My experience is and still way different that what youre encountering. I came from a Iphone 6s plus.

Your assessment is correct. I did not want to transition away from the Samsung device and reasoned the pixel would be the best option. Once I got here - after waiting sooooooooooooo long - I must admit I am disappointed. After being an android user for - well since it was that or IOS I have always had android. This is the first time I have felt lost. If my choice is keep the Pixel or go Apple - I will keep closer to my computer for work. Not trying to be a fan boy but I am not happy with my 1000 dollar pixel....

Wow, everyone's different. I loved my Note 7, but too much bloatware, curved screen a piece of crap. To me the Pixel XL blows it away in every respect.

To each his own. I have no intention of ever owning another Samsung phone. I'm fed up with Touchwiz, Samsung bloat and apps I never used and could only disable but not remove, and the ever lagging behind updates, not to mention Samsung's ceding control of updates to carriers. Thanks, but no thanks. Enough is enough, especially with Samsung leaning more and more toward using the Tizen OS.

overall i like the speed, i agree no real features i started having buyers remorse looking at review videos on u tube. and they were correct, to be waiting that long no real wow factor other than speed. i think the cam is awesome not sure if it worth the 1000 but ill keep it i like it for the most part. waiting to see what the vr offers me. if samsung can wow me w a note 8 id prolly switch back.

Couldn't agree more. Once (twice) bitten, thrice shy. Galaxy S3. What a POS. Galaxy Tab 2... See previous. Can't imagine buying a phone that gets absolutely black listed.

Can we stop all the trash talking of phones and just talk shipping dates? Any new shipments from Verizon?

Can someone else run the quadrant standard on their pixel? What are you getting?

I installed just for this purpose and ran it twice. First time the score was 29,400 and the second time around 31,500. So there you go...
This goes to prove again that these scores don't really matter. I, too, am coming from Note 7, and it was lagging all the time like crazy - and I used Greenify. Pixel XL is flying like crazy. I agree that it is simple and doesn't have all the bells and whistles the note 7 has, but it does what I need it to for the most part. It's bland, but it'll have to do until note 8, or pixel xl 2 come out...😁

I apologize for my rant last night. After anticipating the arrival of this phone my expectations were so built up that when I started down the lets see what it can do road.... Well you know where I landed. I know the quadrant standard isn't everything. And opening an app 0.25 sec slower isn't the end of the world. To me there seems to be lots of info out there, If you want this is the greatest phone you can find that by people that look at phones for a living.

For the record I am disappointed in everything Samsung did with the note 7. I had expected and hoped the pixel would blow it out of the water - much like the reviews I saw and read lead me to believe. Reality is it feels faster in the hand, and bigger, with a smaller screen. My charger came back to life today - not sure I can get the 7 hours run time from a 15 min charge but at least it is working. The charger appears to put more juice into the battery the deeper it is discharged and as it refills slows charging considerably. For me 2016 will go down as the year I expected magic from these phones and come to find out there is no magic - just tech - and tech is expensive and sometimes disappointing.

In the mean time if anyone wants my Pixel XL 128 QB for what Verizon is planning on charging me with the next two years let me know. It can be yours for mere 1200 bucks for the hardware insurance and taxes.
