Google Pixel XL - Preorder /order/shipping thread

As I said before, my typical "new tech toy" impatience would be one thing to deal with, since I'd just be waiting for something new. At this point, my actual phone is only half the phone it should be, and my Pixel is my reprieve from it. *sigh* could be worse, could be worse, could be worse.

Samsung is trying everything to get us to return the Note 7 as soon as possible. I received an update yesterday that, if installed, I would only be able to charge my Note 7 to 60%. That's one update that I won't be installing!

It's because your phone could EXPLODE!!! WTF is wrong with you????

Haa! Have you see the number of phones affected by this issue? It's such a small percentage of the phones that have had issues. Compare this issue with the current recall of the Toyota Prius. The emergency brake cables have become disconnected. You don't see the government saying 'that it is illegal to drive these Prius' until it has been resolved,' do you? Of course not! My phone is not going to explode! But I do agree with the recall!

If the recall is SO urgent that they have to nerf your phone to get your dumb *** to turn it in...it's obviously worse than you think.

Shipped! Mine changed within the last few minutes. No tracking number yet, and Fedex Reference Tracking doesn't show it yet. Woohoo! Standard Shipping here as Expedited wasn't available.

Honestly part of me wonders if this entire thing is just fearmongering forced by for-profit media.

This isn't a problem unique to Samsung. It is exceedingly rare, but all phones can "explode"/catch fire for various reasons. That is why packages containing electronics with lithium-ion batteries all have warnings on them.

It's not just phones, but many electrical components in general. PSU's, for example. The more wattage you try and demand from a desktop's PSU, the more likely it is to fail. This is specifically why I avoided opting for a ridiculously huge power supply unit when building my current desktop.

I feel like this could largely be the case here as well. Samsung even switched battery manufacturers and still had issues reported with the second recall, so it is unlikely that there is a flaw in the batteries themselves.

My theory is we could be pushing the boundaries of what lithium-ion batteries are capable of. Flagship phones are trying to cram more and more storage capacity into smaller and smaller form factors with increasingly rapid charging rates.

In this case, the Galaxy Note may indeed present more of a danger than previous flagship phones. However, this is going to become an issue that is discovered with more and more flagship phones, not just Samsung's. I've already seen instances of the media pushing stories about the latest iPhone's "exploding" as well.

On the other hand, this could all be 100% baseless crap, because for-profit media is repugnantly corrupt and almost never researches, or fact checks anything they report. If you look hard enough, you can find a story on virtually anything somewhere in the world. Phone's exploding, teachers having sex with students, whatever is "trending" at the time. It's happening somewhere, and it's probably been happening for decades (if not longer), but it's not happening any more frequently and is otherwise so exceptionally rare that it shouldn't really be considered news at all.

I have the note 7 now currently..

Samsung has also released a public statement saying that a high percentage of the incidents were faked by consumers trying to take advantage of the situation

I love this note 7 and if hasn't had one issue so far, I'll be keeping it until the second my pixel arrives

What the hell, again - people who have ordered after me moving into shipped well before me, for the same device specs and the same store. I was somewhat 'meh' about it before, but I ordered on announcement day and people who ordered 17 days after I did are getting shipping notices before me. I am becoming increasingly aggravated.

That's kind of insane. What would be the advantage to that?
I added a bit of additional clarification to my post.

The reason is that it matters less if something is newsworthy and more if it will bring in more viewers and increase ad revenue.

It may be insane, but it's the kind of world we live in.

I share your aggravation! I don't understand how some that ordered on the 4th of October and are still waiting to be shipped, while others ordered on the 21st have already been shipped. What am I missing here?

You need to call them and raise some Hell.

Something is wrong with your order.

Ordered a black 128gb xl on 10/21 through Verizon. I've been sitting at processing for a while now with an expected ship date of 12/02.

It's the Google lottery . . .
