Google play crashing

So after much research and waiting for the 32gb model, I grabbed a Nexus 7 today. I unlocked and rooted it, then I updated to jelly bean 4.1.2. I have installed several apps using the Google play app. About an hour ago, the Google play app would crash every time I reopened it. I have gone to settings and then force stopping the app and clearing the cache. I have also tried undoing any updates. I have also tried downloading a new apk and installing that.

None of these solutions has solved the issue and Google play immediately crashes every time I start it. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Stock 4.1.2, no Roms.

I would not have messed with a 'new' apk for the Play Store. Besides that I'd have cleared the Store's cache and data, rebooted, perhaps cleared the tablet's cache and dalvik cache via your custom recovery as well. Not sure what would be causing that though unless you've flashed or installed something strange or altered your system in some abnormal way.

I didn't "want" to mess with a new apk but since nothing else was working it was worth a shot. The new apk behaved in the same way as the stock one, so I simply uninstalled. I could wipe it clean and do everything over again, but I was trying to avoid that. Is it possible that something that was installed could be causing play to crash? Seems odd for another app that isn't running to cause Play to crash, though I am not as knowledgeable about this OS, so that's possible.

As a side note, I lost power last night and this has no WiFi. I tried opening Play and it tried to load but could not - but it didn't crash. I tried opening it this morning and was able to do a search. I found an app, hit install, and when I went to accept the install, Play crashes. Now, every time I try to open Play it crashes again. It seems connected to having a connection somehow?

Did you try my suggestions?

Everything except clearing the dalvik cache. I am not running any sort of special rom nor do I have a "custom" recovery to clear the dalvik cache. I'm unclear what that is or how to clear it. Care to elaborate how to clear it and exactly what function that would serve?

Try flashing the jellybean Google apps package from http://goo.im/gapps the top one for jellybean also would recommend a custom recovery personally I like clockworkmod recovery but for you I would recommend team win recovery program which is a little more user friendly you can get the team win recovery here
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/103
Also you have to have the fastboot files flash through fastboot using
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.0.0-grouper.img

Would I be able to flash the jellybean google apps package without wiping? And what exactly would that do?

I unfortunately can't do it just yet since my home Internet (damn you sandy!) and I only have access on my phone for the time being.

Yeah I flashed the Gapps package 2 days after I flashed cyanogenmod on my nexus 7 and had no problem with it also you could use Bluetooth to transfer the file to your nexus through your phone but I think you have to have a custom recovery to flash it but you can try with stock recovery, tell me what happens. Also Gapps isn't very a very big file so your phone should have no problem downloading it, and to answer your question it replaces and reinstalls the Google play .apk's with new and functional ones plus you lose no data whatsoever in the play store (it still knows what you've downloaded and installed on your tablet and apps you have paid for are still paid for) it also leaves /data alone so all of your apps are still there

I have an iPhone so I can't tranafer files as easily to my nexus 7 (blasphemy I know). That's good to know about the gapps, I will definitely check that out as soon as I have wifi access. I might just take my tablet to somewhere with free wifi and check that out sooner rather than later.

So I downloaded the zip, but it isn't a normal apk to install nor are there included instructions on how to install it. I am running stock jelly bean 4.1.2, how do I install this?

Flash it in recovery like you would a ROM like I said you may need a custom recovery I've never tried the Gapps on stock recovery so not sure but I'm thinking you'll need a custom recovery to do it like team win or ClockworkMod recovery

I have had the exact same problem on my Droid RAZR m. Sometimes google play will get to the accept and download screen then crash, and sometimes it will crash on startup. I haven't found a solution to the issue, and I'd rather not flash anything, so I'm gone try working around it (maybe downloading apps on my PC and using a memory card to transfer it.)

Really flashing is a very safe process and should go smoothly I have 3 android devices and have flashed each of them at least 50+ times and really have never had a problem so don't be afraid of it it's super easy and simple once you have a recovery

Has any one found a functional solution to this? I have just started having this problem too. It also won't let me access the play store online or my voice app. I am rooted, but running a standard rom. I can access the play store temporally after restarting several times.

I accedentally hit the force stop button on google play store when i was on manage apps, now it keeps crashing when I accept the install. After that it doesnt open anymore or if it opens errors accur when i download an app . How can i undo this stuff?
