google play crashing

my gmail is set up already and i fully unrooted the device but whenever i try press google play it just turns into a white screen and crashes and it all happens in a second

Sorry about that. Go to settings>apps>menu>reset app preferences.

I think you may need to reflash the stock ROM, also known as an RUU. In this regard, I don't know how to do so. Never done it before. I can flag down someone who has.

Hello. What version of Android are you running and what version of the M8 do you have? Is the bootloader still unlocked? Do you have a recovery installed? If so, which one?

i have no idea what you just said.but i can answer a few:
-android lollipop 5.0.1
-i have no idea what a unlocked bootloader is.
-its the recovery with the purple background.
