Google Play Movies Aspect Ratio

I was wondering if perhaps the aspect ratio of Google Play Movies has anything to do with the fact that the camera cutout is not obstructing the view. The movie fills nearly the side opposite the camera cutout but stops just before it when you select the icon to expand your view. If it were an aspect ratio, would the movie have equal space on each side?

Gotta be. They probably do the same with other devices with cutouts? Not sure. But other apps (like YouTube) do fill the screen even if the camera gets in the way.

I was expecting that black bars on the sides would be uniform on both sides.

Regarding Google movies. Does that app drain the battery? I have read that it used to do for some people, at least in the past.

That would make the image even smaller, so I'm glad they did it this way, but I get how people could notice it's 'shifted' towards the bottom. Didn't bother us when we had a taller bezel up top, so think of this of a forced bezel.

Weird that they do this while their other video app (YT) doesn't.
