Google Play not working/responding

My buddy just got a Note 3 and Google play won't load or respond. I couldn't get it to work either. He's transitioning from an iPhone so I'm trying to help make it as smooth for him as possible. Any suggestions?

The Play Store wasn't loading on my Note 3 when I first got it but then I did a battery pull and it went through. Have you tried that?

I was having problems with Google Play earlier today, it's working now, could it have been just a connection error? Or are you still having problems getting into Google Play?

Reboot the phone and see if that works. If not go to settings > general > application manager > Google play store and clear data. That should take care of it. Is it a brand new phone?

What exactly was wrong? I would try clearing the cache on the app to see if there was something stuck and causing the issue.

I do know once I had to sign out of my google account completely on the phone and then re-sign in. It helped to solve a few problems.
