Google Play Services has been increasing in size for several weeks now. I can't force stop or uninstall because the settings are greyed out. It's happening on my Note 4 on Marshmallow
I also use an Xperia X on Nougat where the app only takes up 260MB and the options to force stop/uninstall are available.
On the Note this app is showing as the main cause of battery drain. Yesterday, when the phone wasn't being used, the battery drained from 80+ percent down to 31% in 2 hours. Play Services showed up as the app causing it.
Any ideas, Please?

Re: Play Services app at 660MB

Google Play Services includes many packages, so it may be something to do with location reporting or syncing of this or that. Start by turning off Location diagnostically.

My battery percentage has started falling from the 90%'s to 30%'s in 2 hours and the battery app lists Play Services as the cause of it. I've tried everything to access Play Services to do an uninstall/reinstall but the options are greyed out and there is no way to access it. Any ideas, please? Play Services is shown at 680MB and getting bigger every day.

Thanks for you help and advice I've wiped the cache partition but it made no difference to the Play Services app. The data is down a little to 656mb but the options to force stop/uninstall are still greyed out. I have also restricted which apps have access to Location and this has lessened the battery drain and battery life is about 15% better. Thanks again for your help

Can you remember if this started happening around the time you installed a specific app?

I have the same apps on both my android phones. I can only guess this began after the last software update which is when battery life began to suffer. I left the phone fully charged in Flight Mode overnight and have just found your reply.
I've done my daily check on the Play Services app and found the force stop/uninstall options still greyed out but the data storage has dropped back to 280mb. The Manage Search Data portion has decreased by almost 400mb. I'll be keeping an eye on this and battery life to watch for improvements. Thanks again for your continued interest.

Best advice I can offer is post your question right now on the s9/s9+ page on the forum here. Then scroll down through the posts already there. You'll find a number with battery problems, some have screenshots from their battery usage and none of them, None of them show Play Services using more than 2 to 3% which suggests you are constantly synching vast numbers of apps via Play Services, or that your phone is faulty. You should be able to find how many and how often apps are being synched by Play Services and have the option to stop or uninstall them. It was the Android app for Outlook email synching 3 email accounts causing the issue on my Note 4. But it could be any, or several apps. But again, you may have a faulty handset. I was amazed when I looked just now how many faults are listed on the s9/9+ forum page. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted asap..
