Android Central Question

I have a Glaxy S9

Google play services is using 35% and kills my battery quick.

I've cleared the cache and the storage but it had no affect.

Welcome to Android Central! The tricky thing when this happens is that it could be any number of apps you installed that's responsible, since 3rd party apps utilize Google Play Services for various reasons. You might have to try uninstalling apps one by one until the problem goes away.

My LG V30 running Android 9.0 does that every once in a blue moon.
Lots of communication with the wifi router. Not sure what app/service is responsible.

The workaround for me, when I notice it, is to put the phone into airplane mode for 30 seconds, which kills whatever activity is going on.

Wait how did you android 9.0?

All I got is android 8.0!

Do you have a carrier-specific model? It may be that Pie was only released by certain carriers. Or maybe there is an official Pie update, but your phone has to be on that carrier's network to get it.
