Google Play Store: app installation stalling at 100% downloaded

AC Question

My phone, or Google Play Store, has started developing an issue whereby whenever I try to install an app from Play Store the app will get downloaded (progress bar will get to 100%) but then won't immediately install.

If I don't do anything, the app will eventually get installed some hours later. But obviously not being able to install an app as and when I need it is annoying and limiting.

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017). It has plenty of free space and is not rooted.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data?

Try going to the App Manager select Google Play Store, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. Do the same for Download Manager. Now try again.

If that doesn't work, try going to Settings>Accounts-Google, select your Google account, and remove it completely from the phone. Then add it back again, and see if that helps.

Thank you for replying.

Yes, it was happening on both mobile and wifi. Also, I noticed that if I force quit the Play Store via the app switcher, the app that was stuck at 100% downloaded would install immediately. But then the next app I tried to install would get stuck at 100% downloaded and I would need to force quit Play Store to force installation. And so on.

I tried a number of things yesterday, including the steps you suggested. Nothing seemed to work immediately. But some hours later, things seem to be back to normal. Fingers crossed!
