I want to download The Walking Dead seasons on my 16gb Nexus 5. Since I don't have much storage I was wondering if I can transfer it over to a USB drive from my phone. I don't want to stream it since I plan on watching it on a flight.

It will work, you'll need Nexus Media Importer and Total Commander. Maybe just the latter. (ES File Explorer is supposed to be able to work on USB storage now, too.)

where r u downloading it from? legit sources? but if you have a rooted device you only need an OTG cable and any of the apps in the play store and your good to go.

@Ikeman90, I'm planning on purchasing and downloading it from Google Play. I don't plan on rooting my phone. It'll still work, right?

Yes, it works on an unrooted Nexus 5.

But Google movies does not allow for moving the file. Unfortunately you won't be able to move the movie/show and still view it.

@frenziedfemale, that sure is disappointing news. What is the best legal way to put TV shows in a flash drive?

I am not sure about where you can download them on the web, other than Google play. I have shelled out the $10 to buy DVD Catalyst which is an awesome utility for your PC..no I do not work for them,I just love the program. It will convert most movie downloads or DVDs that you have to a format best suited for your device, I know that it supports the Nexus family of devices. Usually I just convert ones I own so that I can toss them on a USB and travel with them.
Maybe someone else will be able to tell you where to legally download some shows.
I know from experience that the Google Play ones will not play if you move them...even to a different folder on your device.

My apologies, I missed the part where you wanted to download movies from Google Play.

I have files I converted and copied to SD a while back, when my computer was still working. I copied my own DVDs so I'm not sure where to download them and be able to transfer them to USB easily.

I guess I'll just settle with buying the DVDs then copying it to my flash drive.

Also, I'm not sure about the legality, but there are a ton of vintage TV and movies on YouTube. You can download (for temporary use, as in a library?) with an app called Tubemate (Amazon app store).
