Google said GN will get Jelly Bean, do they mean the VZW GN?

I wish I could root my nexus :( It's a work phone and i need to be locked, unrooted and official build or loose my work emails.

I have the same issue. My work uses Good For Enterprise which has root detection tools that can be used to block my email access. If it were not for this I would root in a heartbeat.

While I want 4.1 as soon as possible, I am less concerned about VZW delays than I was when waiting for 4.04. The initial release of ICS on the VZW Nexus had some serious flaws that needed to be addressed. People in my position that could not root and were forced to wait on Verizon for the OTA. A 5 month wait was way too long for a phone with these flaws. Most, but not all, of the issues were addressed in 4.04, so a delay receiving 4.1 will not be as bothersome to me.

I know what I will be doing this weekend..rooting and unlocking. Hopefully I will be able to go through the process without any problem.

I started getting some wicked crashing and reboots about 2 weeks ago so I Flash back with Wug's. It took me back to 4.0.2 as the latest version it considered to be out there and OEM locked. It then grabbed on OTA to 4.0.4. I found out after that it was an app that was causing all the headache. Will there be guides for unlocking and flashing to 4.1 out?

I think all you will need to do is flash a rom with the 4.1 file, you are already half way there if you are rooted and unlocked.

There will be a dozen roms by this weekend on some flavor of Jelly Bean.

I think JB will be what it takes for me to flash from stock. I've been rooted for a while now but I really want JB.

if your phone is updated by google like mine is does that mean i don't need to wait for the carrier to fiddle around with it?

if you're on verizon (I'm assuming you are as you're posting in the VZW gnex forum) your updates (like mine) are controlled by the carrier. This is why VZW devices got 4.0.4 two months late.

edit: you can always unlock and flash to 4.1 though, I'm going to be doing that this weekend.

This:
We have plenty of guides and support here if you want to learn!
Also, there's a really great section on XDA for the vzw gnex that's filled with tutorials to get you started. Using the tutorials and google I was able to get the ICS source up and running in my linux VM and compile my own ROM. If you're at all technical (i'm thinking you are as you're here) you should be able to do it no problems. Just read everything more than once and be sure to backup your data. GL!
