I reluctantly post this question because I have found it repeated in the forums over and over again. I only seem to find a lot of quick ROOT-less fixes for the Bing problem.

Is there a permanent fix out there for us ROOT users that doesn't require a ****ty Launcher? I personally LOVE the complete Fascinate UI. I don't want to change it.

Please let me know!

Thanks!

Absolutely. This is exactly why I rooted my phone in the first place. You need to download and install EnhancedGoogleSearchProvider.apk and either rename or delete I500_BingSearchAndroid_07152010.apk in your root file explorer of choice. If you choose to rename it, like I did, just add .old to the end of the file name and the phone won't use it. After that, google will be used for everything that bing was before. Including the search button for both regular and voice search w/o needing a widget or other launcher (though it still works in those too if you choose).

Currently you can completely de-bing your fascinate; however, the one problem with not using a 3rd party launcher is that you cannot have the google search widget on your homescreens (don't know why but twlauncher/touchwiz won't list the google search widget in the widget list that comes up when you long press on the home screen). If you completely love the touchwiz interface, the widget would be the only thing you would be missing out on.

A solution that you can consider is to get the vibrant touchwiz launcher on your fascinate. You can get the instructions and the file from XDA fascinate forums. Using Vibrant Touch Wiz Launcher on Fascinate - xda-developers If you do replace fascinate's touchwiz with vibrant's touchwiz you would be getting the same touchwiz experience + google search widget. But one thing to consider is that the people at XDA who have replaced it say that you cannot assign which screen to be your home screen, so i would assume that the leftmost screen, or maybe the center screen, would be set as the default home screen.

Oh, maybe if you wait a while or browse the xda forums you may get a better solution, since the mesmerize is essentially a de-binged fascinate, and maybe some people may have found ways to get the mesmerize things into the fascinate.

I dl the google search apk to my pc and then transfered to sd card of my fascinate. renamed the bing file and installed the apk through super manager root explorer. the google search worked with the hard key but the voice icon disappears. Any suggestions?? Thanks
