When I tap the microphone at the bottom right, I see a flash and the status line (top) and the very bottom show instant evidence of something happening but the mic does not work. (It did work) But if I tap the G (google) at the bottom left I am taken to the search screen (I don't know what to call it) and then the mic there works and I can ask my question verbally. Ideas? I don't recall changing anything. I have restarted.

Which launcher? Have you enable voice search or Google assistant?View attachment 331092

Google Launcher, I believe. Never installed any third party ones.

Google Assistant was working. I just noticed the other day that tapping the Mic did not work.

I have a video but will have to upload to Youtube that shows the flashing.

Is everything up to date? My Google search bar on my 3 XL has the Assistant icon on the right, not a microphone icon.

You can try clearing Google app data and force stop, and another is the pixe launcher in settings>apps clear its data and force stop but will reset your home pages and need to set up again.

I see some of the reviews say folks have been having a variety of issues and Google's replies say they found the issue and are working on it. Maybe that's my issue. Mine works but only after tapping the G(oogle) icon (on left) and then tapping the mic when it opens.

An extra step but I guess I can live with it. (or not!)

Here's a video

Did you already try clearing the app cache/data for the Google app as mustang7757 suggested?

By the way, I just noticed the other day that the Google Mic (voice search) is working again. And it was working before I updated to the Feb security update. I did nothing different and did not add or remove any apps. I hate computers (says the old, very old, cobol/ibm computer programmer).

I have the exact same issue. Microphone on home screen no longer functions, but microphone on search screen works just fine. "How can I help?" just sits at bottom of screen when I tap the home screen microphone icon.

If I activate with "OK Google", the microphone also works (right now), however, many times this activation also fails with "How can I help?" sitting on the bottom of the screen. Sometimes, when "OK Google" is working, the voice-to-text translation is unusable. "What is the weather in Hawaii?" might translate extremely slowly into "tree house".

This started a couple months ago, I believe. I have a Pixel4a running Android 12. I have cleared the cache on every app that I think would be related including Google, Launcher (Pixel) under settings, Google assistant.

Have you checked your QUICK SETTINGS. If you swipe down again after the initial swipe, you'll find a setting for the Microphone. Be sure it's turned on.

Thank you for the response. I could not find the Mic under quick settings, but I did find the field ("Mic Access") and added it to the quick settings. Unfortunately, it is already enabled. I toggled it from blocked to enabled with no effect on the issue.
