So I got an HTC Hero after they stole my iphone. Loving it. I updated it to 2.1 and then rooted it. Couple of days later, I recieved an OTA update and accepted it. Now my WiFi tether app won't work but my phone says its rooted. Tried erasing info and hard reset. Still doesn't work. Help!

If you accepted an OTA update then chances are that root has been lost. You will need to re-root the phone. Now, you replaced your iPhone with the Hero, so I'm assuming you are on AT&T and using the GSM Hero? I'm not familiar with the GSM Hero so you'll have to search the forums on XDA-Developers to get root how-to's for this version.

If you are using the Sprint Hero (CDMA) then you can use this method to root your phone again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804296
