Google services battery drain question

I'm having a strange google services related battery drain issue. It seems to be a common problem, judging by the posts on the subject on the web.
After doing some research I am wondering if anyone else with this issue has recently downloaded Google Hangouts (replacing Google Talk).

That was the last change I remember making prior to this issue.

I was getting severe NlpWakelock issues due to Google Services draining my battery. I just downloaded Google Hangouts, but my problem happened long before I installed it. It's actually related to location services/Google Play Services/Google Services or some combo. Totally sucks.
