My problem with Google services fixed itself after a couple days, not sure what that was about, to be honest.
I need to review my SD card to see if I have any png files or pdf docs, but I am not sure that would change a thing.
In my case, I get battery life close to what I got when I got my phone brand new... More than a day worth of battery and more than six hours of screen on auto-brightness, which I think is OK, maybe not stellar as some other people, but then again user habits probably also have lots to do with it.
