Google services is killing my battery life

How can I reduce this without it defeating the purpose of having a smartphone?

This is most likely the constant location polling. I turned it off from Google Now and Google Maps (the setting says "Report Location from this Device"; set it to Never and it won't poll for your location all the time, just when you're actively using the app) and voil?! Nearly 50% better battery life.

Location reporting is off all I have is Google now enabled and GPS with network location on

Install Titanium Backup and see what apps you are allowed to "Freeze." I froze Google Services and I found that my Google Search, Google Calendar, and Google Keep needed the service. If you are ok with not using those 3 apps (could be more) then freeze Google Services. I'm not sure if you need root though (I have root and I can freeze it with no problem)
