Google Sheets and working off line

I was working off line fine in Google Sheets but felt I needed to be extra secure so moved the files to a data traveler, I can see the files on the data traveller but somehow cannot access the information. I did delete the off line files. I do have older excel copies which are password protected, so all is not lost, but they are a little bit out of date. I may have disabled the google drive, does anyone have any ideas about how to restore or open the files from my data traveler?
