Google still hasnt fixed this problem..

Its your rom, not google. Watch ESPN doesn't work on my cm7 from... is that google or espn's fault?

ICS is a rom. and even Cory made a thread about an app not working in ICS (tapatalk) on the GNex. So please.. lets not all start acting like this is the first time anyone mentioned ICS compatibility issues..

And you are missing the point of my post.. its not my specific fascinate that I care about.. infact im giving this thing away for free when I get my Galaxy Nexus.. I'm complaining about the fragmentation issue in Android..

I guess if I was crying about Verizon not announcing a phone this would be more acceptable.

It's also not the first time fragmentation has been discussed in android. Having a concern is one thing, creating an issue before we see if your concerns become reality, is another.

What made you think fragmentation was going to be fixed with ICS? The only way to get close would be if all devices were Nexus. Even then it would take time to achieve Nexus for all.

As so many others have stated, I don't see this as a Google issue but rather an app. developer issue. The developer has the responsibility to verify compatibility with the OS, whatever OS and version it may be. If it's not compatible, the developer should either fix it such that it is or simply state that the app is not compatible. This goes on every day with any application development and any platform, including Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, etc. In fact, I've had to update many of the apps on my iPad simply for the app to be compatible with iOS v.5. This is not a unique concern with Google and Android, nor is it really their problem.

Apps that weren't fixed for ICS don't work properly. News at 11.

The fragmentation issue with Android has been overblown. I'm a developer and I've been doing this for years with other platforms. This is nothing new and you are just spouting nonsense about a yet to be released product pretending to be intelligent on the subject matter.

Stop with the passive aggressive bull in your posts and wait for things to be released and fixed.

so what platforms have you developed on and dealt with this fragmentation? I think the comparison to windows is a bad one.. its not like there are people out there still using a windows 3.1 computer.. yet there are people out there still using android 1.6 and possibly lower.. lets not forget that Android is also very young.. and already this fragmented.

anyhow.. what amazing apps have you created.. since you feel like bragging?

Perhaps not, but there are many running XP and Vista. The biggest culprit in the Vista "fiasco" was that XP apps just did not run on the new OS. Applications also had to be updated for Windows 7. And there is a reason why Microsoft has released XP Mode, a virtual XP machine that runs on 7 for older applications.

As someone above me said, it has been blown way out of proportion.

philly your continued ignorance on the subject is astounding. But I have a few minutes to entertain the troll.

Back when Windows 95 came out a large majority of applications, especially dos based games, would not work properly. As it stands a lot of Windows 95 applications will not work properly on XP even though the architecture of both OS's were only slightly different. But as with any iteration of an OS there will always be apps that need to be updated or else they won't work properly. This has been going on for years so for you to make a post about this like you are a SME is hilarious.

Also, my contributions have been in the private and DOD sector so to say it's bragging when you are clearly trying to feel superior for running ICS is hilarious.

im sorry you decided to assume alot.. I dont even know what an SME is, let alone pretending to be one.

secondly.. I downloaded a bunch of apps off the market just now and was having issues running them, and I blamed ICS for it so I made a post.. how exactly is this bragging about ICS?

and lastly.. Windows 95 never had issues with DOS based games... later versions did.. and windows 95 to windows xp was only slightly different? there were several major builds and 6 years between the 2... maybe windows 95 and windows 98 werent that far apart.. but isnt windows XP from the windows NT?

Why is this in the Galaxy Nexus forum again? A user running a custom ROM of ICS on a phone that's not a Galaxy Nexus. Mods can we move or lock this or something?

I think most of the problems can be chalked up to the unofficial rom. Honeycomb in its pure form wasn't really designed to use apps designed for a phone and it does it just fine....I can't even think of a single app that just won't work. I find it hard to believe that the official ICS version will be any worse...

Tapatalk works... the same day cory posted, the app was updated. Ics from source properly built =/= a custom rom. There was a post in the blog explaining this. Watch espn doesnt work on my cm7 thunderbolt, but it works perfectly in miui. App developers may need to update, but if they made an attempt months ago when ics was announced, they most likely have their app working. Regardless, quit blaming google for something that isnt their fault. Either blame your rom maker, app developer or just sit on your hands.

From what I understand, ICS (and subsequent flavors of Android 4) was designed to be the solution for both tablets and phones, so perhaps there may be a few inconsistencies that may be initially discovered with existing apps' compatibility. Those will most likely be corrected over time, so I guess we'll have to see what shakes out over the next few months, and deal with some app incompatibility issues until they're refactored to work with the newer version.

But, from ICS onward, future app development and functionality should have a much better chance to work seamlessly across all phone platforms, one would hope.

I think you still dont understand my point.. I could careless about these specific apps having issues.. infact they were bought simply because they cost .10 cents..

My point is we all know the #1 thing that Apple has better then Android is the fragmentation issue..

So I was stating that even though it helped Android get a foot hold (open os, free, allowed to customize etc = more hardware manufacturers adapt to it) I think the problem with it not being more restrictive and forcing pure android like the iphone does hinders it.

My title doesnt say "NEXUS DOESNT WORK WITH APPS". Its basically me ranting about the fact that I wish google would of done something drastic by now...

like push the manufacturers away from their UI's.. but realistically none of that seems possible so it just looks like a problem google will always have.. whether or not its downplayed.. having multiple fragmentation on top of further fragmentation (custom uis, carrier interference etc) is a problem for Android.

WP, IOS, meego etc are all crap in my eyes.. Ive been a fan of Android since I read about the HTC Hero coming to sprint like 5 years ago. I just hope some day Android comes up with some way to get around this and we can have a full Android experience.. where we all get immediate updates from google regardless of what phone we have.. where we are all on the latest OS etc.

You have no point and you don't even know what you are talking about. You keep harping on Google to "do something". Does Microsoft do anything about crap apps? No, that's out of their control. Are there issues with IOS apps in between versions? Yes. Do us a favor go buy an iphone and piss off

what does microsoft have to do with this?

I dont care what they are doing.. I care about Android.

you can keep crying.. silly wannabe dev.

ios fragmentation is not much different. my sisters have the iphone 4. can they use siri? NO. compatibility is something that will never go away. there are certain websites that use .264 codecs and cant run on chrome. newer products will always do more to keep you buying them. its what keeps the tech world moving
