So this refurb 4XL Google sent me only has one (that I can tell of the new feature drops) despite being up to date on play store and software version.

Called Google Support , they logged in to my phone and we went through everything.

They agreed,. Had all the latest software installed and my apps were up to date, yet I lacked the blur after the pic, no duo update, and I lost gps yesterday in a big city so I doubt I have that update, no clue on ram management update

They couldn't tell me why. They said send feedback. They basically were helpless

They said wait for January update...

Well, you are not alone. My wife has Google photo blur feature on her pixel 2 xl. I am on pixel 3 XL and don't have it. We are both on the December patch and have the exact same Google photo version. Go figure.

You're too spun up about this. The feature drop is not life altering, everything was humming along just fine before you even knew a feature drop was coming. It's not a big deal, you'll get the drop, just practice some patience.

LOL, I paid 900 for a premium, newly launched phone .... It died. Before it died, I received the feature drop in it's entirety. Now, I have a refurbished phone less than 2 months after buying the new phone, and one of the feature drops (automatic call screening) has downloaded...

So everything was humming along, with the feature drop, until I had to get phone replaced.

Losing GPS - assuming it wasn't due to your location (being deep in the canyons of a big city with skyscrapers can easily kill it) - is a good reason to ask for another phone. (Install GPS Status & Toolbox so you can see whether you're locked to at least 5 satellites the next time that happens. If you're not, GPS won't work. It wants 4 for horizontal location and time and the 5th one for altitude, and it won't send anything to an app requesting location until it gets at least that far. If you're out in the open, you should be locked to at least 8, although you're usually locked to more. [Locked is green - yellow just means that the signal for that satellite has been detected.])

I agree, refurbs suck. You basically paid full price for a phone off of Swappa.....used, abused, and returned for whatever reason :O
