Google talk update (to hangouts)

You'll receive an update notification via the Play Store like any other apps, when it's ready. Play Store servers update in batches when apps are updated, could be a few hours.

Are you sure its an update? I thought it was a completely new app?

Update.. It replaces Talk. I actually just found that if it's not showing on your device yet, you can go to the Play Store on a computer, search for hangouts, and install it that way. It will indeed replace Google Talk.

I installed Hangouts. Then uninstalled it. Some of the functionally is not there just yet. No SMS. No way to clearly seen who is online or to sort the contacts to view them in a way that makes sense. Worst of all there is no way to voice chat.

I'm underwhelmed by Hangouts, poor name and nowhere near the integration I expected...
I'll keep it because I never really used GTalk anyway so makes little difference to me but disappointed...

My app updated but when I launch the app, I still get the old Talk interface. Anyone else having the same problem?

I agree. It is a joke and needs to be updated pretty quickly.

Mine is still the old talk app and on the web version of google play it lists it as installed ha.

I wonder if we won't have to say goodbye to being able to see who is online or idle. To me this was a really useful feature. But it might be that Google's thinking is just "Go ahead, shoot your message. It doesn't matter what the other person is doing. What matters is that when they will pick up their device, log in to gmail or g+, they will be able to see your message and reply to you." In that sense, sending a hangout is just like sending an email or a text, and the recipient will reply at their convenience.

Online and offline is an irrelevant concept in a Unified Messaging app.

I have the same issue.... went to the market and it says hangout is already installed but when opening it, it still is the old talk layout

Guys YOU NEED to wait for Google play store to release an update for ur current TALK. It took me a whole day for that to happen, I would go into Google play and hangout would be there and it would just say open. When I would open it would take me to the old talk app......because the update had not reach me yet. So I found this apk in the meantime and started playing with the app.

For those of you who are still waiting, here's that apk. Go ahead and download it if u want.

Enjoy.

If they integrate SMS there would be no way to tell if that person was online.

The two most requested things, ability to see when someone is available and SMS integration can't work together.

I hate Hangout!!! I upgraded just to see what it was all about and ALL MY 1000 Facebook friends showed up. I use this program with two - maybe three people total so we don't have to eat up our SMS amount ... I cannot find a way to not pull in my Facebook friends to the list. All their phone numbers are showing, etc. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ONE BIT!

Just search for thier names, start a conversation, and boom, you have those 2-3 threads in the current hangouts window, problem solved. I'm mostly the same way, I don't need it to communicate with everyone, but I'll also *never* go to the list of 500ish names it presents to me.
