Google Talk???

This may sound stupid, but how the hell do you get google talk, registered and working? I am in no way android ignorant, this is my 5th Android device, I just have never used it and my mom wants me to set it up so she can see her niece in NC, no use to me thou. Do I need to set it up on her CPU first? Is there a step by step process? Unless I overlooking a simple step, this doesn't seem very user friendly.

Does she already have a gmail account? After that, she should be able to go into "settings" in gmail and enable chat to show in the gmail window. Alternatively you can go to talk.google.com and download the desktop app (PC only).
