Google TV to ps3? Will it happen?

Considering Sony is making one of the first Google TV boxes do you think they will update the ps3 firmware to include Google TV? That would instantly get the service into 30million households

You know that's an interesting thought. Today, I was thinking Sony would try to push something to Google TV, like Qriocity. I never stopped to think that Google might be thinking about pushing GTV to Sony. Having GTV in PlayStation would be an insanely good move for them.

One of the most powerful gaming consoles on the market paired with what looks like it will be the best thing to hit tv since [insert favorite show here]. heck yeah that would be awesome. It also sound like a good move on Sony's part since they market the PS3 as the system that "only does everything," then doing Google TV would be a logical move.

...doesn't GoogleTV put an overlay over your normal TV (be it satellite or whatever)? If so, then the PS3 will never see a GoogleTV inclusion as the PS3 has no way to channel your TV through it...

Dude, the PS3 displays infromation on your tv, just like any other device (a la Google TV). The only way that it would be impossible is if Google TV was a physical screen overlay, or, in layman's terms, a screen that you put over your screen. However, as it is just a software program, it is fully possible that a computer based system like the PS3 could, in theory, use the Google TV system.

Google TV requires input from you cable/sat provider to be able to search listings... otherwise it's just a web interface. The PS3 is not hardware-capable of receiving input from a cable or sat box that I'm aware of...

Google TV is an interface overlay and search engine that sits on top of whatever is playing on your TV, without routing your broadcast through whatever is running Google TV, I don't see how it will work.

PS3; for the browser WEBGL, for DRM Ultraviolet, for the desktop Android 3 with special section containing Google TV android apps and search routines. This would allow the PS3 to play WEB games, Play media and browse the web with the Media search routines of Google TV.

Google TV as everyone in this forum should know is full of features besides the search overlay.

I'll have to investigate this PLAYTV/2 thing... never heard of it TBH. Sounds like added hardware though, which is right in line with what I said about GoogleTV and the PS3: as it stands now, the PS3 is incapable of passing video/audio through its hardware.

And all I know about GoogleTV is what I saw during IO... which wasn't a whole lot. Haven't been keeping up with it, really; has Google put out more on it since IO?

PlayTV2 may include a way to convert video and audio to a format that can be input through the USB port on the PS3. HDMI is an uncompressed encripted multi channel digital stream. How it would be possible to compress that to fit through a USB port is beyond me. WHDI appears to almost do this so it might be possible.

Sony, Samsung and LG just announced they are founding members of HDBaseT a "HDMI killer" replacement for the HDMI cable connection. A Cat 5 cable will carry HDMI video as well as 100 mbit LAN throughout the house. Multiple sources and sinks can be on the same network. This also might allow video input to a PS3 through the Lan port. The HDBaseT chip converts HDMI to a packet type digital stream carried on a cat5 cable and can be run through the home network including switches.

Google TV is built upon the Android toolkit (this forum) so as a subset of Google TV the device will probably include the Chrome Web Browser and Android as well as the basic applications included with the Android kit.

They already have blu-ray on their, so I could see them pushing a blu-ray google tv feature. People would love to have the feature, it would be streaming so it wouldn't cost them significantly more and they could charge more, and anything hd just gets people lol.

Right now, without purchasing additional hardware to compress and reformat anything to push through USB or this HDBaseT connection, the PS3 does not have any video input (outside of its disc drive). I can't run my sat. box into the PS3, for example, and have Sony's existing hardware pass the signal through to my TV. If I'm wrong, please explain how that is possible.

Now, for the future, or adding an additional hardware step, I don't dispute that it's possible.

....They are not making Boxes (logitech is), they are making TVs with it built in.
And Note well in a few videos floating android it has shown its connectivity with the 360 so I would imagine it would do the same if not more

How does it do that without blu-tooth? WIFI?

And how does the XBOX360 display 1080P as my understanding is that it takes a 720P generated image and up converts it to 1080P. 1080i is possible but that can't be output at 1080P as it's two interlaced half images. 1080i is terrible for a text display.

Not trying to start a flame here. The XBOX is superb as a game machine but the reason it costs less and until recently outsold the PS3 was because it didn't have what Xbox users called unnecessary features for a game machine like blu-tooth and Blu-ray.

Blu-ray live requires Java support built into the drive. The PS3 has that and that made it easier for Sony to port Java to the PS3 XMB for use by for instance Netflix and HULU. I believe Xbox will have Java support soon also, it cost me some $80 extra to get that PS3 feature early.

1080P, blu-tooth, blu-ray, browser, combined with 30 million users make the PS3 attractive to Google.

The Xbox can do an adequate upscaled 1080P, the user can buy a blu-tooth adaptor and Xbox can totally rewrite the Xbox OS and include a browser. Will this happen? Probably not, absolutely not if SONY doesn't port Google TV to the PS3.

To insure SONY ports Google TV to the PS3, XBOX needs to leak that they are doing something similar....I assume the same applies to MS.

I think for those without cable it would be awesome. That is the only part that needs the hardware right?
