Is there a way to make Google Voice the default SMS app? So that any other apps that ask if you want to send somthing as a TXT will open up GVoice?

Or are there any SMS apps out there, like Handcent, that will integrate with GVoice so that everything will go out through your GVoice account and not over the Cell Phone network?

I'm pretty sure the first time I tried to send an SMS from another application (contact list, for example) it asked me which app to use, along with the option to use it as my default from then on as with most applications. I never even open or see the default SMS app (except for when T-Mobile sends me bill payment notifications to my cell rather than GV number)

Is that not working properly for you? I don't frequently access SMS features outside of Google Voice itself, so I haven't run into situations where that didn't work for me.

I don't remember ever seeing that, but I recently reset my phone and I saw it this time. Thanks! 8)

The only way you can use a non-GV app for SMS over GV is to enable SMS forwarding which introduces the obvious caveat: you will get charged for forwarded SMS.
