I just got this phone and switched from Sprint to Verizon. When I try to set up Google voice for voicemail (since Verizon likes to think its the early 2000s and people want to pay for ringtones and voicemail etc) it says my carrier doesn't allow automatic setup.

Has anyone done this?

set it manually. I once couldn't set it automatically on my ATT and i did this

open phone dialer app-->menu[bottom right]-->settings-->Call Forwarding-->

Always Forward-->Disabled
and set the other 3 option to your Google voice number(use +1 before the 10 digit no)

Every time I switch my phone on Verizon I get this message. Once the phone reboots it works just fine.

-GS4 4.3 - Verizon Wireless-
I had Google Voicemail set up on my Galaxy S4 and one day it just stopped working. I couldn't reconfigure from Google on a desktop or from my phone via Google voice app. So here is what I did:
I went to app manager, cleared the Cache and everything else.
Then I Force Quit the App.
I uninstalled the Google Voice App, shut down the phone for a couple of minutes then powered back up.
I reinstalled Google voice from the Google Play store.
Then I dialed the *71(Googlevoice#)
Gave it a few minutes...
Then Viola! It worked, my voicemails now come directly through Google and not through the Verizon Service. Which is nice because usually I have WiFi and if I don't have service I still learn that I have a VM via push notifications thru email. I know now if I need to call a client back.
If *71 doesn't work then try:
*90[Your Google Voice number]
*92[Your Google Voice number]

I hope this helps.
