Google vs Microsoft, Which Ecosystem?

I was in the same boat 8 months ago. But at the time I had a iPhone, Gmail, and a Windows 8 PC with OneDrive (Office 2013). I was having to choose between 3 ecosystems and really struggled with which one to go with. In the end I wound up getting a Moto X (OPO incoming now) and divesting myself of my Apple stuff (gear and media). Now I use only Google services on my Moto X and my PC. I gave up gaming years ago so this was much easier for me.

I'm with you OP, the struggle is real.

Indeed it is, I was browsing through IGN, and my various new feeds and realized, pretty much everything I do with a smartphone can be accomplished with a WP, and I sincerely worry about my gaming situation, I have really invested a lot into my Xbox. So it may be easier to switch to a Windows Phone, I just need more money to get one (Lumia Icon) off contract, as they are much more expensive than a Moto X.

A895, I don't see a problem with being in both ecosystems. WP's app availability is poor enough that now is not the time to ditch Android. Later maybe, but not now. If I were you I wouldn't forsake your Play Store purchases at the moment.

It is not that it is poor, I guess my biggest issue will be giving up the fine grain control you have with an Android device. I can literally tweak anything on Android, on Windows Phone, not so much. My biggest I think is data toggles, I turn off my data most of the day, and use WiFi whenever I can.

I am so fickle, I am sticking with Android. I thought I could but I really can't justify spending $400+ for a phone when I can replace my Moto X for $100 and get a Nvidia Shield Tablet for $400 and still sell my Xbox and games for $200 or more. Yeah, I keep trying to rationalize it but I am going all in with Googles Ecosystem.

It works for me and honestly gaming ain't a big deal. Especially since their are some high quality title available for the Shield exclusively and through Google Play.

I just looked up the shield, and now I'm a little disappointed with my nexus 7 :P
I'd definitely recommend sticking to android because holy wow that thing is awesome.

Yeah, I will just soldier on with a Moto X and Nvidia Shield Tablet and maybe a Moto 360. And eventually a Chromebook. For now, I will focus on getting another Moto X and get the Nvidia Shield before the year is out. The Nvidia Shield is without a doubt arguably one of the most (if not the most) powerful Tablet on the market. Nvidia chips have gotten really good since the Tegra 4.

It's too bad that my nexus is new and I don't have much money, because the shield is a dream come true.

Don't blame you one bit.

As to which phone to get, I looked at all of them in the past 3 weeks and had a hard time deciding what to get.

The Shield is on my Christmas list because it is certainly a full dual purpose device that is top of the line for both.

As much as I enjoyed my 1520 for a while,I soon found out some serious flaws not only with the phone, but with the os as well that has stumped the folks at the Microsoft Store and so I switched back to Android on the HTC m8.

I took your advice and really researched the Androids as much as possible and what you said is true so.... I do apologize for the disagreement we had on the subject on wpc.

The m8 to me is about as good as it can get and is a awesome phone. Getting a small tablet is way better to watch stuff on over that big phone too............ so when I started reading about the Shield, I knew I would eventually get one. I'm not a dedicated gamer like you, but that one can do a lot more too.

All in all good luck with your phone decision

I converted to Windows Phone when it was released, back then it wasn't a pretty experience. Microsoft rushed to market, the developer support was poor, the phone features where lacking, it was enough to put me off going back. I did like their OS though, but the company seems so split even the Silverlight and XAML teams don't seem to work together, never mind the Xbox division.

Im still confused about why you would need to quite gaming on your XBOX if you go all android. I use a iphone, Ipad, and apple tv and I still have a 360, PS3, and PS4. there completely different things from mobile.

My main thing is having a unified store. With WP, I can buy apps, tv, movies and some games that are on my PC, tablet, phone and Xbox such as Halo Spartan Assualt. With Android I can buy apps, games, moves, and tv shows that can be on my phone, tablet, Android TV and soon Chromebook.

With a more unified store, I won't have many store that I have to pay too for this or that. But anyways, I changed it, I am keeping my Razr M and using all Microsoft services, an I still get to have all the latest apps and games. I am keeping my Xbox too along with my PC.

My main thing is I want my PC and phone to interface smoothly all the time.

I use PushBullet to send and receive stuff to and from my PC quickly and to have my phones notifications on my PC.
OneDrive for storage.
Outlook for my main email.
Xbox Smart-glass to control Xbox from phone
Netflix(multi-platform) for all my video needs
Bing for my searches
Xbox Live games
Office Mobile for my docs
OneNote for notes

The only Google services I have now are Chrome for bookmarks and Maps for Navigation.

Sounds good. Have you decided on a phone ?
