I don't mind rooting, but I want to stay with the stock rom. Is there some workaround that will allow google wallet to work if you are rooted?

Should work fine if you root. Did for me anyway. If you install certain ROMs it can work or sometimes it won't. There are always work arounds and patches to make it work. Remember when you are rooting the only thing you are doing is allowing your phone to be exploited. Installing custom ROMs is where you probably have to worry about Google wallet

Yeah just use a rooted stock rom and it will be fine. It will throw a stupid error lime your phone is not supported but just ignore it and use it like you want. There are tons of threads on it over on xda

Great app installed no issues. All set up and ready to use. So technically I wake up phone up and touch to the sensor and touch again if it asks for a pin?

yeah after you sign into your google account >your enter a pin (make one up if you dont have one)usually I have to enter the pin number twice to go to where my card is at>next you add a type of card you want, visa, mastercard, etc.>next is to enter in the card's info. After the card is added to use it you just have to tag google wallet >enter your pin>and it should work where those types of card readers are at.

I use a prepaid debit card synced with my google wallet app instead of using a regular credit card

Edit: Also If you ever decide to flash another Rom you should go into the settings while in google wallet and reset google wallet before you flash another rom to keep from possibly corrupting the secure element. Then after you get a new Rom flashed just sett it all up again.
