Google Wallet problem?

I just got the S3 yesterday so I'm new to Google Wallet.

I rooted the phone as soon as I got it. I tried to use Google Wallet today several times at 2 vending machines that takes paypass, but I kept getting an error message that says "Mastercard Debit cards are not accepted".

I tried with 4 different credit cards, 3 of them being Visa. I see that my "virtual card" is a Mastercard, could that be the problem?

My card works directly on the paypass device, just not through Wallet.

Any one had this problem? Thanks

Sounds like the issue may be on the vendor side and their hardware. I've had my own experiences with nonfunctioning equipment at a retailer.

However, are you using the Sprint variant of the galaxy s3? If not, in order to use the Google Wallet (after rooting), you might have to tweak the build prop. If you are using Sprint, I would try resetting (through settings) google wallet as well as clearing the cache. Then try again.

Had the same problem this morning. Just got my GS3 on the 2nd and used GWallet at a fast food place. The terminal registered the NFC on my phone but the I got a message on the GWallet screen saying that the store's reader was faulty.
The store management had the nerve to tell me that it works when you put a dongle or NFC enabled card on it. And I then had to explain that my phone uses the same NFC chip as the dongles/nfc cards.

In the end they had to just flat out admit that they haven't been trained on excepting payments other than card swipes and cash.

Simply put, I really don't need to eat under the "Golden Arches" anyway.

I have a S5 and i have the same problem. I have had google wallet for a long time. Never was avid user but i am trying to work it into my routine.

I have called there support many times to try and see what the problem was but i ended up just testing it myself.

The google wallet system uses a virtual card (v-card) as the middle man. It charges the v-card first then it charges your card. Why it is set up this way, beats me. But ether way it takes away the streamline-ness of just using your card (just adds a bigger paper trail and more work). In my area i was mainly trying to use it with a vending machine but even tho the the card I programmed in was a MasterCard credit (i also tried a visa debt) it was trying to use the v-card that was debt and would not accepted it. This will happen any-where that dose not accept MasterCard debt (form what i can tell). Both my MasterCard credit and visa debt work when i swipe them just not in the app.

I have called and asked if there is any way around this but have not found any. Hopefully it will be fixed in the future. I am also filling a formal complaint just to get my point across.

PS: This was the only posting i really found discussing this issue. I think this must be relatively isolated problem or people just don't care enough to post about it.

Thank you,

I think that for most people that use GW, it's working fine and they have nothing to comment on.

I was really frustrated when Google removed support for all devices under 4.4, but I understand it was their only way to get around the Isis backing carriers blocking the secure element of the phone.

I liked my JellyBean ROM and had my phone set up as I wanted.
Google will do as they like, and I'm sure merging Voice w/ Hangouts will bork some other functionality that I appreciate.

Edit: I think the bigger issue right now is retailers (CVS, RiteAid, Walmart, Best Buy, etc...) removing NFC payments entirely, as they see the waves of Apple Pay customers lining up.
(imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Apple! :))

I just want to tap my phone, like I have at hundreds of Wallet/PayPass merchants and gas stations in the past.

It's likely trying to use your Google Wallet Card first. Go into Google Wallet App. Click on the Tap to Pay section. You should see the credit cards listed above. At the bottom of the screen is a check box "Use Wallet Balance first when available". This is trying to use the Google Wallet card, which I believe is a mastercard debit card. Uncheck this, and Google wallet should directly use the credit cards listed.

I have something like $160 on my Wallet balance.
My Mastercard is good too.

I had hacked my way around using Wallet on a rooted device.
I cannot find a way to get around the fact that I'm not on a 4.4 or higher release of Android.

If you have any ideas, I'm ready to try them!

Ran into this tonight at the movie theaters. Ice cream vending wouldn't take Google wallet. I researched into this and turns out the processor for that card reader stopped accepting MasterCard debit in 2011 because the fees were so high for small transactions. It's not that they've blocked Google wallet, they blocked the way Google wallet handles transactions.
