Nexus line seems to be no more and we have enter the beginning for new product line the Pixel. What is the difference between the Pixel and Nexus line? Is Pixel and evolution of the nexus line and no longer blueprint wore what android community builds off but the Pixel is the final product to stand above the android ecosystem? Is the HTC the sole manufacture to produce Pixel devices or will Google pick different manufacture every year? Is Pixel just re-imagine version of the nexus philosophy switching focus of the line of products instead being blueprint and show the best offering of android to now being what Google product is stands for and best android device can only be offered by Google?

Their a lot questions to be asked on intent for Google's new pixel line. Hell many still don't know what purpose Nexus line was for nor did Google really lay out clear reason for nexus line or end goal so much same should be expected in the process of the pixel line.

The Nexus phones were not designed and marketed for the mainstream consumer market. The Nexus phones were purely for developers and enthusiasts to create/troubleshoot apps and to play/root/hack on. Google was not trying to sell Nexus in high volumes.

Whereas the Pixel is squarely aimed at the mainstream consumer market. Google is marketing the heck out of these phones and they are trying to sell lots of them. The other thing is currently the Google Assistant is only available on the Pixel and they are not backward supporting Nexus devices with this feature.

As far as HTC being the manufacturer... No one knows for sure how long they'll be manufacturing the Pixel's... But there was a report that HTC signed a 3 year deal with Google.

I was about to post this. It certainly makes sense now after hearing those rumors. For a Nexus, having the same OEM build them for 3 straight years was a first. But if all they're doing now is assembling them as a silent OEM, then it most certainly makes sense.

As for the Nexus philosophy Jam, I think you're right, but to a point. But I think while originally it was for developers, they also used it to test the waters so they could eventually release a phone like the Pixel geared more for consumers. Especially with the Nexus 4, 5 and 7, they priced them so low, that even though they didn't plan to sell them in large quantities, I'd bet those devices sold more than any previous Nexus devices released prior to them.
