Gorgeous Pixel XL 2 concept envisions less rear glass, more LG styling

My biggest problem with this design is according to all rumors right now the regular size pixel will not look like this. I absolutely hate the fact that it looks like Google is going back to having two separate designs for their regular and XL phones. Seriously, they nailed this with these first-generation pixels, where the choice between either phone was basically only about the size of the phone. Instead they're going back to a more Nexus 5x and Nexus 6p Outlook where there's a clear better phone and in order to have that better phone you have to have a big phone.

If the rumor mill is to be believed, shame on you Google.

i was heart broken when there was leak about 2 different bezel size.
my first big phone was nexus 6p and i was pro big phones for a while but now i feel like a smaller phone is much more manageable. I would love to buy pixel 2 but if pixel 2xl is same size as pixel 2 then i might get pixel xl 2

I seriously doubt the Pixel XL 2 will be the same size as the Pixel 2. Even if the regular Pixel stays at 16:9 aspect and the XL is 18:9, there's still a 1" difference in display size. That's a lot of real estate difference and even with the narrower aspect ratio, I don't think it's possible.

I agree with both of you that if they are indeed running two differing designs that it's a major step back. Did they miss how everyone was praising them for finally offering two different sized phones that were otherwise identical? Besides their optimized performance and camera quality, that was their main strength. Before it, any "mini" phone always had quite a few caveats like a lesser processor or camera or less RAM, etc. Here they finally said, "You want a powerhouse phone but in a smaller package? Then this is the phone for you!" Now they're right back to the previous "You want a powerhouse phone, then you'll need to buy the larger model." It baffles me that they can be so obtuse.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the new aspect ratio, and I'm wondering if they're doing this to try and push people who want smaller phones to the XL because with the narrower aspect ratio, it "seems" like a smaller phone. I'm sorry but I don't want to hold a remote control to my ear, I want a phone. And trust me, it won't be long before the width of these devices are right back to where they are now in a few years time. Except by then it'll probably be a 7" screen and you won't be able to reach the status bar because it's so tall.
