Got a Mate 20 Pro, Ask Questions

Is there auto HDR though ?
It does not seem like it. Unless the AI decides on this, but otherwise you need to select it under 'More' in the Camera settings

What Americans really need is a reviewer in USA who can discuss reception at ATT and tMobile. My biggest concerns are lack of US warranty and no way to know how well available bands match up with our providers.

That said I appreciate all you have told us about the phone. It sounds great to me. Camera is less important to me than ir blaster and led notifications.

I have to say, EMUI9 has really taken the gesture control to a good level. Unlike the Google Pixel, the Mate 20 Pro uses Gestures similar to iOS, so there is no 'pill' button, just a UI that is driven by gesture control, it amazes me just how much space is freed up when you don't have a navigation bar or pill button (Pixel 3) to deal with.

This device also just feels so good in the hand, it seems to be a bit more narrow in hand vs. iPhone X S Max and Galaxy Note9, making it a whole more ergonomic.

The main thing I am loving is how brilliant this device is keeping BOTH a good WiFi reception and LTE+ reception, in places where the Note8, Note9, iPhone X and X S Max would typically have no signal, the Mate 20 Pro keeps its reception.

In our house the Mate 20 Pro has signal in places we considered to be dead spots. The Mate 10 Pro was also like this, always keeping great RF. The Mate 20 Lite I tested also did a very good job of keeping good RF. GPS signal also seems to be a very strong suit for Huawei, I think their experience in networking equipment really helps them have an edge in these areas.

I'm terms of battery life, I continue to be blown away

I finally got the Mate 20 Pro down to 4% last night and then called it a night.

Over 7hours SOT with over 17hours off charge, I was very impressed, and pretty sure it will do even more once my usage also settles down as I cannot stop fiddling with it. I think with Moderate usage one can get 2 days easily with this phone and with heavier usage they can get a full day and possibly a bit after that.

I've not really been looking forward to moving to gesture control until I saw a YouTube video of the Mate 20 Pro using them. Like you say they're far more intuitive like the iPhone. And I love that they've still incorporated One Handed Mode by swiping out from the bottom corners much like Samsung's activation method.

Indeed! I was also absolutely dreading the move to Gesture UI. Huawei seem to have taken the best of Apple, Samsung and Google and made one big hybrid UI that is incredibly intuitive. It's lovely.

EMUI9 also just feels less "congested" than EMUI8, they have cleaned it up and improved a few areas, nothing dramatic though.

Camera time!
Guys, I am no photographer but this camera(s) does a great job. I was mainly testing the Super Macro Mode and the Zoom Levels.

thanks for answering my prior questions!

the pics that you shared above, were they taken in AUTO or Manual settings?

also, is there any way to remove the "watermark", Huawei Mate 20 Pro ?

cheers!

Only a pleasure :)

The pics are taken in Auto, I am no photographer so I simply point and shoot while trying to stay as still as possible

Yes, in actual by default the Watermark is turned off on Retail units. Right now I have it on as it helps me immedietly identify which photos belong to what phone on my laptop.

Hi Tsepz,

My next question maybe a bit technical in the photography aspect but I think many will like to know the answer.

Are we able to process the RAW files from this phone with Adobe Light Room 6 or Elements?

If you do not have these post processing programs. Is it possible that you share a RAW file and let us work on it?

Many thanks

Great feedback man, very useful reading

Maybe I need a Mate 20 Pro to compare with my Note 9
