Got a Mate 20 Pro, Ask Questions

Anyone experienced network dropping out on the Mate 20 Pro? I'm on EE (UK) and it was fine in my Galaxy S7 but just bought Mate 20 Pro, had it two days and mobile network drops out. The button to toggle it is greyed out too. I have to restart the phone to get it to work again.
Return the phone for a replacement, I'm on EE and never had any problems at all.

As dc52ltr said, take it back, that definitely should not be happening at all.

My experience with Huawei is that their phones tend to have some of the best RF performance, I guess partly because they supply a lot of the 3G and 4G equipment.

If you were in the USA this would be more understandable as they use Frequencies in their networks that Huawei doesn't support.

Totally agree with this...

I've had 3 Huawei phones, the Nexus 6P, the P20 Pro and this new Mate and their connectivity has been brilliant

It's stopped now. I'm in day 5 of owning this phone now and it was only happening day 1 and 2. I went on live chat with EE and they asked me to disconnect, try connecting to another service, then connect back to EE. That seems to have resolved the situation.
I have the John Lewis 2 year guarantee on this. Will give it a bit more of a chance before going back to them. Cheers for the pointers guys.

Hope you enjoy your new phone, its really top class IMO

Cheers dc52ltr,

I've noticed a few issues I have with it, as well as a few aspects that I really am impressed with. Just need to get used to it :-)

SIM issue returned after behaving for a couple of days. My attempts at fixing have been:

1. I turned the phone off a while, then turned on - still "no SIM card" error.

2. Restarted. Worked for about an hour then the error returned, making the phone misbehave while I was typing (closed everything and went to lock screen).

3. Removed SIM card tray, wipes SIM card and put back in. That helps for a little bit.

As per EE live chat advice I will be visiting an EE shop to get SIM card tested, hopefully today. If the SIM card is fine I will be contacting John Lewis for a replacement phone.

As I was typing this the error occurred again - phone closes the keyboard and goes to lock screen.

If I end up getting a replacement I won't be using Phone Clone. That has caused me other issues with app settings resulting in the need to uninstall and reinstall apps.

Previously on an Android phone when I set it up initially it asked if I wanted to restore my apps and data.

Didn't get this option with the Mate 20 pro.

Seems to want to use phone clone.

Is there a simple way to move my apps with google that are backed up?

Would it be recommended to just grab the apps from play store. I assume google backup would restore data when sync is on

Assuming your phone is not affected by gluegate, how many of you are seeing green edges (colour shift not glue) when viewing the screen straight on?

I am just curious if any do NOT have this phenomenon?

I do see colour shift, similar to what I had on my Galaxy Note8 and Galaxy S7 Edge, it's something I got used to with curved displays along with some glare where the display curves.

I have used a lot of edge equipped phones and have never seen it, light fall off maybe but not a clear shift. On my BOE equipped M20 pro (now returned) it was clearly visible on any app with a light background, when I ran display tester it was even visible on a yellow screen. Photos of mine attached, actually looked worse in the flesh, hard to capture properly, Note also included for comparison.

I have seen in store display models that do not look quite as bad, wonder if they are non-hulk LG screens.

Just took delivery of the view 20, having a clear out of other phones so am on the fence as to whether to give the Mate 20 one last go....

Woah! Okay mine isn't that bad,one looks more like what your Note looks like, I literally have to look for the shift.

Decided to take one last punt and ordered one from Amazon. It arrived yesterday, it is a BOE model again and the edge shift is there but is not quite as bad as the last one.

What I would like is a non-hulk LG screen to be honest.

That's a shame. You haven't had thr best Mate 20 Pro experience

It is not as objectionable this time, contemplating keeping it tbh.
Hope it works out well for you this time, I'm really enjoying this phone. It has never slowed down since the day I got it... Updates aren't as timely as my last Pixel 2xl but are faster than my last couple of Samsung handsets... Great screen(LG for me) camera is brilliant (pixel was marginally better as a point and shoot)... Both my Sons have got this phone, 1 came from an iPhone and wouldn't go back, the other had my 2xl and much prefers this Mate 20 Pro

LG screen is worse there is more motion blur and it drains more battery. I had both the LG and BOE ones apparently BOE's manufacturing process is one gen or half a gen ahead.
