Android must do something and fast. Wp7 is nipping at it's feet.

I got an HTC Surround and am fairly impressed with it's fluidity, how smooth it transitions from page to page, screen to screen. Web browser scrolling is better in Wp7 than in Android.

Android must do something and quick.. rather than implementing stupid things like Leanback, why isn't the team focusing it's time on things that actually matter?

Google needs to stop viewing Android as a platform JUST for ad revenue and really start thinking it as a mobile OS.. do Google employees eat their own dogfood? I surely hope so.

PS. AND IT HAS A REALLY GOOD NETFLIX APP..WTF ANDROID!

Gingerbread is almost ready for prime time, and that is the update that is supposed to totally change and improve the UI.

Have any pics/screenshots of the new phone?

Seriously? WP7 better than Anroid? Not hardly and out of all the WP7 phones available the Surround is the most ridiculous. WP7 you can't upgrade the sd card, there's no using it as a mass storage device. Everything has to be done through their Marketplace, Zune store, or whatever. That's a major fail.

Netflix would be nice, but it's not greater than all the short-comings.

I never said WP7 is better.. I said it's got potential and the fact that it's got Netflix app before Android is simply stunning.

I did say that web browsing scrolling is better, this is fact, you can totally see the difference because WP7 has GPU acceleration in the OS and Browser whereas Android devices, none, do not.

Zune integration does suck, but so does the MASSIVELY popular iPhone's integration into iTunes.

I'm just sayin that unless Android does something to better it's UI and smoothness, people are going to jump ship. I already have about 4 of my Android friends wanting a Wp7 but because they are locked into a contract, they cant.

PS. Xbox integration is AMAZING. You can play with your avatar, send/receive messages to people on their 360, you can see friends list, achievements, play games and GET achievements that carries over to your 360 account..it's pretty cool.

yes yes, it's smudged.. like 15 people were playing with it.

That's a shame.. even though the iPhone doesn't do OTA updates, they could still make all their updates available via Zune.. how can a carrier block those?

They have to be certified by the carrier. Apple probably forced ATT to let them push out updates whenever they want. Microsoft isn't in the position to push like that. I wish they woulda because that was one of the things I really liked when I was reading up and considering a WP7 device.

Now with that news I'm kinda glad I didn't get one, because that woulda been a big reason to go with it for me.

I didn't pay for mine.. but that does definitely suck if carriers can block updates.

I'm glad Android is open and you can do pretty much what you want with it. :)

The Music and gaming is what interested me in WP7 but the current phone lineup was dull except for that Dell Venue pro. Sadly, I cant live with only 16gb so I didnt buy it.

It looks nice, but for me it's still version 1. I promises of what are to come don't mean anything if it all falls through. The market place is extremely limited, the SD card issue is kind of ridiculous, and I'm iffy on the UI. I'd be concerned about how tied to my computer I would have to be with that phone. Do I need a Windows box to fully use the phone, or will it play nice with my Linux or Mac boxes? One of the big turn offs for me on the iPhone is the need to have iTunes to do stuff like phone updates and sync (one of many of my issues with the iPhone). I've already lost my beloved Zune and Zune Pass to not having a Windows computer, I don't want a phone that would be crippled from the start for the same reason. I know I'm a small percentage of the population who would have that problem, but it's a deal breaker.

There are quite a few things that I do like about the OS, and when it will be on the short list of things to check out at renewal time, but for now, it needs to start producing on promises and building up a solid market place before it becomes a major player.

I'm interested in any phone. Unfortunately, as a learning developer, phones don't mean much to me anymore. Just what my software can run on for the general population. I mean, before I'd say Android, but now, I must admit, they're all good phones. Yes, iPhone included. However, my Evo is all I need and am quite content with it.

not completely related but any tips on how to dual boot the surround into an Android OS? I've heard of it being done before but really wanna try it on my friends phone, he's not too satisfied with WP7 OS :-\

I had a Surround for a while before passing it tO my wife, and I loved it. So much so, in fact, that I bought a Focus(SAMOLED).

However, I kept running into the limitations of the phone. Nothing major, but simple things that bugged me enough to go back to my iPhone4.

I also mess with Android quite a bit. I had a Captivate I used for app testing and dev, but it just didn't work as my daily carry (Netflix is a BIG deal for me). I also didn't like the reliability of the Captivate.

I have my main line up for contract, and I'm looking at using it to pick up something new to play with. I was looking at the HD7S, but MS seems to be failing at delivering on promises, so I've gone back to looking at Android. My wife already has the Inspire, so I'm looking at an Atrix, or the Thrill when it releases.

WP7 had major potential, but it had a long way to go.
