Got it activated at Best Buy, but didn't get to leave with it

Another lie to spread by verizon as to why they hold the phone. If this bug was found the phones would not have been sent to stores in the first place.

I chose to return it to save the employees position. Sorry that wasn't clear.
Just to be clear I had absolutely no issues activating the Nexus.
I even made 3 calls on it. If you notice my screenshot, I have the voice mail indicator on the screen from the store that left me a message.

instead of 777 it should be 666...it's dressed in red already...RELEASE THE BEAST

In a previous post I mentioned the fact that my employers West Coast FL operations are very near VZW's Florida's Corp offices and on many occasions I run into the same VZW Corp. employees having lunch at the same restaurants that my colleagues and I frequent.

Today my colleague and I were having lunch at Chipotle and were talking with two VZW Corp. employees about various things and the GNex came up.

I said that I was rather annoyed at the fact it has taken VZW or Goolge such a long time to release the device in the USA and that for a company like Big Red they should be able to launch a phone in a timely matter. Neither employee disagreed with me and both said there are issues with the network and the device (they did not go into specifics) but on other occasions have said that their LTE network just does not play nice at first with many devices.

One employee did volunteer the fact that they had already prepared to launch the device a few times already and in fact places due have the devices in stock, but VZW has had to stop the launch due to network issues (not sure if it is the same issue each time or different ones) and it is just as bad ( I am guessing financially/etc) for them to stop a launch as it is annoying for us consumers to have the launch delayed.

I am on at&t Mobility so in truth, VZW launch woes are not of paramount concern to me, however the delay in launch equals a delay in the exclusivity period which does affect me as I want the GSM device and I am going to have to wait for that till probably Jan. or beyond.

Passing it along for whatever it is worth,
Dan

Well you can take what I am going to say with a grain of salt as I am but I was at my local Best Buy this evening and after doing some shopping wanted to see if they had the Nexus in yet just to ask knowing they will say no. At the counter there was a Verizon Sales Rep talking to a couple Best Buy mobile employees and what was he showing them? You guessed it! The Nexus. I was not allowed to see it but the rep did say that it's going to be released this coming Sunday and yes the BUG that people have been talking about has been resolved. When the phone gets activated it will do an update to fix the 4G/ICS glitch that was found. The rep did also say that it was suppose to be released today but Verizon, Google, and Samsung had to be sure the bug was fixed with the update. Like i said taking it with a grain of salt but I will be calling BB on Sunday morning to see if they have it released.

I asked the BB sales person if they did have the phone and they said no but it's coming tomorrow Fed Ex Saturday delivery.

Sorry but his is completely false. (the part about the bug) I activated and went home with my Nexus. The 15th is the date I was told as well. I am not questioning the Best Buy part.

I must say this response is offensive. When you accuse someone of saying something "completely false", your calling them a liar. Does everyone who has a different experience than your own, are liars?? Shame on you!

so he activated his phone and no ota was there so what's that say about "your bug"??

To me it says that the device was activated and he didn't have time to play with all aspects of it to see which app/ code is causing the bug? OTA's are not going to come out ASAP. I think it will be a rollout with the update.

This is a very sad, sad story. As long as data was working, I would have run out the store as soon as the credit card went through, haha. I would gone without phone calls for a few days and played with it over the weekend.

Yeah no ****! What about people who are adding lines to get one? I would be perfectly fine with using my charge to make calls where I drooled at those hi-res wallpapers from the xyboard on that sweet ass HD display!

Patience is a virtue my friends. Its coming soon. In the meantime, Start trying to learn how to load custom Roms if you dont know how. This way you will have that much more knowledge of mastering Android :)

Yea, never understood why people (especially the "tech-savvy"), let any store employees activate or setup their phones. A new user I can understand might need assistance, but if I ever bought "in-store" (usually order them online) there is no way in hell any of those clowns is putting their grubby paws on my brand new device before I do. Just hand me my box, receipt & have a good day.

Best Buy will not let you leave their store without letting them activate it. I told them to keep their phone then and walked out. This was not for the Nexus but the Samsung Galaxy back in the day.

Then you won't be getting the phone in stores... they activate it automatically. It sucks, but the only other choice is to order online.

Not for me I'm able to leave with out activate it
Its just like buying online

They felt horrible but I did at least get a piece of information you might or might not want to know the Verizon person they had me talk to appologized for the issue and told me the phone wasn't to be sold yet for this very issue. There is a bug in the software they are still having problems with which google is still trying to fix. They have sloted the phone to be released on the 15th as long as the issue is dealt with by then.

Bull . Voice is carried on the CDMA network that has been around for many, many years. There is NO WAY on earth that a Verizon handset is going to make it through all of their several testing revs, general manufacture, and being distributed to the stores for sale when there is a bug that prevents it from placing a voice call.

In my experience, 99 times out of 100 the rep that you're talking to doesn't have a clue about anything, and is probably making up excuses or explanations because the real answer isn't in the script.
