Got my Droid Maxx Thursday

Well, I have given up the illusion that I will find a phone that offers both a huge battery and SD card support (besides the Note, which is just too big for me) and I decided to go straight to the biggest battery I could find and got the Droid Maxx earlier this week. The phone itself is almost too big for me, but all the current high end phones are ginormous. I so-wanted to have another HTC phone, but until HTC decides to come to the table with a decent battery, I am not buying.

I was on vacation and my little HTC Rezound was ruining the second consecutive vacation by eating up batteries and battery packs and living on chargers like intravenous drips. We took the Cape May ferry to Lewes and by the time we got on the return ferry, my battery and the power pack were dead and my phone was sucking a charger in the car while I was not getting to take pictures or do anything else. All the while my sister was snapping pictures with her GS4. That was it for me.

I did not want to return to Motorola, but I wanted the battery. I went on the search. It took me a few days because no one had them, not even Verizon online, but I eventually found one in a corporate store and what a difference in this battery. I have been working it like crazy. This is truly an all-day battery. The HTC One, in no way can compare as far as the battery. I am absolutely sure I would LOVE the One, but the battery is just not what it needs to be for that size of a screen. I am absolutely sure that I do NOT love Motorola, but the phone is a good phone and the battery is fabulous. It also has some nice features and the voice recognition is major accurate.

Anyway, I am sure I will be posting here and I look forward to helpful posts from others.

Here are two screen shots of all day use.

Those are terrible times for the maxx. You should be doing twice that.

Thanks for the opinion? Most users are quite satisfied with six hours plus screen on. Stick to your 'amazing' moto x threads and quit trolling.

Geeze lighten up. I can do what he is doing on my moto x. I am simply pointing out that there may be something wrong with his maxx.

I would take anything thegrants82 says with a grain of salt. I think 6+ hours of screen time is good and the majority of people here will as well. I have been following the X forums and most people there are getting 3-4 hours of screen time at best (one or two claim to get 6 hours of screen time but that is very very suspect). I just got my Maxx on Friday but am on pace for around 6 hours of screen time and 48 hours of battery from 100% to empty. Coming from a GS3 (and a GNEX before that), I am loving it!

congratulations. not everyone uses there phones in the same way. maybe if you lived where he does then your phone would have only gotten 3 hours. he didn't start this post because he was concerned. more than likely there's nothing wrong with his phone. im sure hes thankful for your concern though.

There are so many factors that play into display on time. What were you doing when you got this? I have gotten 6 hours of screen time during tests on my Maxx and I am quite happy. I would go as far as to say the Moto X wouldn't match this. I had 4G LTE on constantly with SiriusXM running in the background the whole time. I was surfing the internet with a ton of use on the Android Central app. Some texting and a but of YouTube.

Can the MotoX reach 6 hours? Probably. But you would need to limit the type of activities you do while the screen is on.

Actually I am pretty ecstatic over my usage. I came from the Rezound and it would have been dead after five hours of screen time with no extra time away from the screen. On my first full day with the Maxx I was off the charger for 15 and a half hours and I have everything running, as I don't turn things off to conserve the battery. I was also in and out of 3 and 4g and stuck on bad wifi. I wanted an all day battery and I got it so I am happy. No complaints here!

Oh, and by the way, I am a "she" and not a "he" :p

I think you've summarized the best aspect of the Maxx. You can use it almost any way you want to all day and still have power left by the time you turn in.

Also came from the rezound. Also in live with the battery. 6 hours screen on is nothing short of great. He's jealous, otherwise he would be in his own forum section.

I also wanted the one and probably would've gotten it if it came to Verizon when it did on Sprint. Poor HTC, needs to get it together. If they just released an awesome device.once a year, updates to newest software FAST, and kept their devices updated for 3 years from release...they would do ok. But people are on to them, and don't want orphaned devices.

Yeah he can't account for the conditions you were in and how you used it. When I'm in and out of signal my numbers match yours. Not longest maxx times but still over three times what my gnex would do.

Replying to you and not him because I don't feed trolls!!!

Yeah I love their look but they just can't seem to get much else right. I had such hopes for them too.

I'm definitely not seeing numbers like these. Wondering if I have a defective unit.

I don't know enough yet about these phones to offer any thoughts. I hope you get it worked out though because I am really happy with this battery. Keep me posted.

I'll comment on this part of your post. As recently as March I never wanted a phone without an SD card. My mind has completely changed. It just seems easier to deal with one form of storage(on my pbone) & I'm always afraid of corrupting my card. I back up all of my files & pics on Google Drive or Dropbox so if my phone craps out on me I know they are all safe. I won't buy another phone with less than 32 GB of storage.

At this point my one remaining issue is that I am going to have to spend time carving out part of my music library to download to my phone. I have 25 gbs of music on my SD card and I don't want to use data listening from the cloud. A 64 gb phone would have been a bit easier, which is why I wanted a phone with both big battery and big storage. But yeah, I know what you mean about it being easier. I do back up everything on Amazon, Sky Drive and Dropbox, but I still have to remove some music.

If you have it in Google play music, you can easily have your music in playlists and then while on wifi "pin" the playlist(s) you want at those times and switch out. Not always ideal but then you're conserving data and storage both.
