Got my Today

Got mine in the mail today (ordered off eBay). Very nice! Apparently I got a developer phone (?) Since there are developer options in the settings menu. I'm not a developer, but I guess it will work fine (unless I have warranty issues). I am surprised at how good the battery has been. No official numbers, but I'll get a better idea on a non-weekend.

Biggest surprise? The size! This thing is slim and light! Loving it so far!

No, everyone has the developer options menu.

This is my day one battery result. My screen has been on for just over 3 hours and 22 minutes. I have made just over 52 minutes of phone calls. I'm very impressed with the battery life. My old DX would have died in half that, easily. I do tend to use wifi at home and mixed usage at work (I worked today, but used mostly wifi due to location within building and local signal strength).

I also ran several speed tests today. With a 2/5 4G signal, I hit 12-14 Mbps. With a full 5/5 4G signal I hit 22-36 Mbps with uploads of 19+ Mbps. I never thought 4G was truly that fast.

And how much screen on time is that? 3+ hours and I'd be sufficient impressed :)

See my previous post. I had 3+ additional hours of uptime with well over 3 hours of screen on time and I had 21% battery left.

In some of these screenshots I see WiFi on and the meter is blue, and then the cell signal bars are grey along with a grey "4g lte" beside them. On every other android phone I've owned, the "4g lte" symbol would go away when I connect to WiFi, and both the WiFi bars and the cell signal bars would stay blue.

Is that not the case on the razr m? Is what is showing up on these screenshots the default behavior? If so, that's a waste of screen space if you ask me. No need to show "4g lte" when you are connected to WiFi and cell data isn't even being used.

It does appear to show your cellular signal. I have no idea why. It will even show 3G if you aren't in a 4G coverage area. Not only does it seem like a waste of space, but why would it waste any battery trying to monitor the cellular signal with wifi connected?

That's nice but it's a step in the wrong direction. Every other android phone I've owned... Going back 2.5 years... Turns off mobile data automatically when connected to WiFi. Without the need for an app. I hope the M turns it off too and just fails to remove the icon.

I don't think the fact that it changes from 4g to 3g indicates much. Although none of my other phones have the icon when WiFi is on, they all monitor signal. If you go into settings, signal strength they will still tell you 3g or 4g even when WiFi is on. Also, I think the fact that the signal bars and 4g symbols are grey instead of blue indicates that mobile data is in fact off.

So I think waste of screen space is the only concern, but it's an odd and annoying departure from all other android experiences.

I'll need to check if the gray color is different from the white used to indicate that you aren't synced with Google's servers.

It is gray, not white. You are correct. I think they show it to help people decide whether or not to use wifi. I don't care about the screen real estate. How many notifications do you need?

Grey indicates signal is present and blue indicates data being used...

I'm pretty sure grey/white indicate you are not synced to Google services, and blue indicates that you are. Data being used is indicated by the little up and down arrows that appear when data is used, not by color. Some phones don't have the little arrows though.

Blue is active and sycned with Google. White is active and not synced with Google. Gray is not active. I was commenting earlier because I was uncertain if the displayed 3G/4G signal strength was inactive or not. There is in fact a difference between white and gray signal icons on the M. I confirmed it this morning by turning off wifi. The gray 4G indicator turned white for a couple of seconds before syncing with Google and turning blue. To Chrikenn's earlier post, yes, the phone is displaying the cellular network strength being monitored in the background even though it's not active when using wifi.

Camera 360 FTW. Huge improvement over the stock camera. I was considering returning the phone bc of poor camera performance, but camera 360 made a helluva difference. I tried pudding camera and vignette as well (which I heart but it doesn't perform that well on the M).

(My apologies for going slightly off topic.)
