Got SMS from VM - 2.5 GB data cap comming March this year (((

I doubt the Mifi would really help you. You would just have 2 devices that are throttled after 2.5GB. Like LeslieAnn said, you should take a look at T-mobile. However, I think once you manage to go over 5GB your data is slowed to 2G speeds. Which is way worse than what Virgin Mobile is going to do after 2.5GB.

Yes, it does drop to 2g, which stinks!
I think if they dropped to 3g, I would consider going for the 2gig plan, but dropping to 2g is harsh.

I wish they had a bit more diversity in their plans, they need something with decent data with decent minutes. They have nothing between 100 minutes and 450 minutes. And then there is the 2g issue.

Give me something mid ground I would switch. They have better coverage and better speeds here, but the plans are just so out of touch with what I need. Granted I rarely go over 2gigs, but I also tend to use about 250 minutes, putting me right in a bad spot with their plans.

Straight talk just announced they are offering sims to use in unlocked phones.
Welcome | Straight Talk | Bring Your Own Phone

Ya but is that also for smartphones too? Straight Talk use sprints network just like virgin mobile and Boost, so if you bought a gsm phone would you even be allowed on the 45$ unlimited plan? or would you be stuck on the 30$ plan with slow internet and only 30MB's of data?

You cant use the $30 dollar plan on a smartphone. Also if you click through to buy and all that jazz it only offers the $45 plan if you indicate you have a smartphone. I think this is the t-mobile pre-paid plan just with the straight talk name.

Keep in mind they are getting the LG Optimus 2X soon which is the unbranded version of the T-Mobile GX2. So Im sure the GSM phone will be just using hte T-Mobile prepaid internet.

You can use the $45 plan on Iphones.

However,
Read up on them. If you tether, say goodbye (especially if you use the AT&T sim). Also, their limits are pathetic and not obvious.

At the moment speculation is that downloading more than 100 megs per day gets your account locked.
Downloading more than 2 gigs a month will also get your account locked, and there is no meter. Some are even speculating that it is a 1gig and some even think it may be 500meg download limit before they lock your account. No warning, they simply lock you out. Also, look at the terms, no streaming audio or video, or... If you truly follow their terms you may as well not even have a smart phone.

Then you have Page Plus with their 3g that is capped at 119k, as well as 1or 2 gig limit, the 4g plan is actually 3g speeds, same limit. Then there is Simple Mobile, good speeds, low download cap, 500megs I think.

Not such great options after all.

Virgin mobile and Boost are definitely the most lenient when it comes to their plans. lets hope they stay this lenient with their data and don't force anything worse than 2.5GB. Of course T-mobile is also looking pretty good. I'd go with them way before I went with Straight Talk. If T-Mo had 200 minutes for that 30$ plan I'd be set.

Agreed, I don't get the idea of 100 minutes and 5gigs.
How many people can that really be targeting, 100 minutes? I don't use mine much compared to most people I know, heck, I even hate talking on the phone, and I still hit around 250 average.

I just wish VM would up the speed a bit, double maybe? and get people some decent phones, it would be nice (B.Y.O.D. would be nice too, not that it effects me now).

If you ported your number to google voice and used groove ip you would probably be set because I get pretty good service using it now on 4g it would probably be really good.
My question is where does it say that at the end of the month you would get 5 more gbs. I know that it's pretty much assumed that each month you'll get 5 more gbs but I never could find it written.

Not sure I understand.
You get 5gigs per month, not added, just 5 gigs and it depends on your plan.

I know this is just really technical but it never says 5gb a month it just says 5gb then 2g data. So you could look at it as you get 5gbs every month or you get 5gb and after that you only get 2g. I can't remember why I even looked into maybe someone pointed it out to me but I'm sure it's 5gb a month.

This way off subject feel free not to answer but how is the evo4g ? I've thought many times about something like this but never went through with it

If you look at the page, and the stars it explains, you get 5gigs at 4g, then after that you have unlimited on 2g. They are month to month plans, so it restarts each month.

Today was actually my first day with the Evo, I have only been able to play with it on wifi until late last night. Absolutely incredible, I love it. I like it better than the Iphones, and it makes the poor old OV seem like it's 5 years old. I''ll send you more on PM.
