If you're in the US or Singapore, Google Wallet is now the primary Android payment service and wallet to store your hotel keys, driver's license, boarding passes and more, as well as make contactless payments. Google Pay will stick around, but only as a service to send payments to friends and family.

If you have both Gpay and Wallet, which one will be used at a terminal? I don't use them very often, I generally pull out my card by habit.

I have my Google Pay set up where I just unlock my phone with touch of my thumb to home screen and bring the phone up to the credit card reader in one fluid movement and it will make payment without having to open the Google Pay app. Nothing beats that when you usually have your phone in hand (edit: initially said pocket but meant phone in hand)

Lately if I do have my phone in pocket sometimes I will pull out my wallet instead and use my cc because with all my card having NFC it is very easy and fast to just tap the card on the NFC sensor to pay too.

I use my watch, Don't have to pull anything out of the pocket you are right about the ease of using google pay on some phones. It was just one motion to slip the finger over the sensor while pulling from your pocket but it became near impossible with the onscreen scanner.

I've tried Google Watch and Samsung Watch a long time ago and never found it useful trying to do everything on a small screen so haven't had the urge to try again. But to pay by watch would be nice. May be time to give smartwatch another look at.

My watch wouldn't work one day last week and I pulled out my phone and my default in Samsung Pay well wallet now is a Wells Fargo Amex and I get confused sometimes but it said give cashier the 4 digit pin and it showed 4 numbers at the top but it didn't work I wasn't sure what pin it meant. I haven't used my phone to pay in a while usually my watch just works doesn't ask for pin for cashier

I've tried Google Watch and Samsung Watch a long time ago and never found it useful trying to do everything on a small screen so haven't had the urge to try again. But to pay by watch would be nice. May be time to give smartwatch another look at.

watch is too small for much because of the small screen. But it is perfect for notifications from phone, email and other. In addition it is great to pay with. Give it another look

Had the same thing happen to me with Samsung Pay. I had to call them because of a problem I had with rewards and asked about this. They told me it could be one of 3 different pin choices, which was ridiculous. Why do they have so many choices and how would anyone know!? The other choice was to hit the yellow back button on the terminal and then no pin required. Not sure if your card acts as both credit and debit but this works perfectly for me.

It was on my screen up top it showed like ***** and then at the end where like you will see your last 4 numbers of your card but this was a different number so Igave it to her and it didn't work.

Hmm no this is an Amex credit only. But tonight my watch worked at the gas pump so maybe it's fixed now I rebooted phone and watch the other day

I think when I installed Wallet, it replaced Pay. I don't think you can have boyh. You upgrade or you don't.

I don't use either, but I did notice I was getting app updates that said they were for the "old" GPay app, then I started getting updates for Google Wallet, and no more GPay updates. It seemed like GPay was being phased out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think I might have read something along those lines as well?

Wallet never replaced GPay even with updates on my Pixel 6 Pro running A13Beta. I had to install Wallet from the Play Store. Wallet and Pay did coexist until I uninstalled Pay. The Wallet icon did replace the Pay icon on my lock screen before I installed Wallet.

Please explain to me the difference between the Google Pay app and GPay app (see pic below). Which should I get rid of? Do I keep both? Or do I get rid of both and install Google Wallet. With Google Pay still installed I installed Wallet and all my cards were already in there and Wallet was ready to go. No point in having both so Pay was uninstalled.

Thanks! I just discovered that the "Google Pay" app no longer exists (except for the stupid icon) but they both did when I set up my phone. And I also just discovered that Google Wallet was pre-installed on my phone but I had disabled that. Given that I have never set it up, I'm going to go ahead and set up wallet to give it a try... and get rid of GPay.
