GPM when Parked

I saw a few sites running headlines back in April saying that GPM now allows you to browse your entire library while parked?

I still don't seem to be able to do this in my 2016 Honda Civic. I created playlists for every Artist I have in my library and it only lets me see 20 of my playlists even when parked.

Based on this video I should see an Artists and Albums listing, however I don't see that in my car.

Same here. LG v10. Latest Android auto. Using Hyundai sonata factory head unit. I've never been able to browse artists. Even when parked.

Android Auto uses multiple data sources to determine if your car is parked or not, mainly location updates. To consider the car parked all moving speeds from all sources (Network Location, Phone GPS location and CAR Location have to be under 0.5 km/h). If the car doesn't update the GPS sensor on AA correctly (for example it reports no sensor at all), AA will consider that NULL which will prevent it from going into parking mode. Since the location sensor it's only optional I guess some headunit manufacturers did not implement it, resulting in car not being detected as parked... even if you are parked.

Ah, excuse me but there's a GPS in the damn phone! Waze can tell me how fast I'm going - even if not connected to anything but GPS services are on. I can assure you that I leave Location services on 100% of the time. Still AA couldn't tell I was not moving. I'm not buying your explanation.

Hi Andrew.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick here. Yes phone has GPS, but Android Auto application on the phone uses more sources than just simply the GPS on the phone. You can have everything enabled on the phone, that doesn't matter too much if your head unit is not feeding sensor data to Android Auto. Android Auto listens to a whole amount of sensors feeded by the car to the phone, some of them are mandatory others aren't. The location sensor is not a mandatory sensor so there is a high chance that the CAR/HEADUNIT does NOT feed this sensor data to your phone. The logic in Android Auto is weird, if the car doesn't feed location data it consider that surse NULL, but than it also considers NULL not equal 0 (which I don't understand why!) and since it's not 0 car is not parked. If you want to test what I'm saying download the Desktop Head Unit emulator from Google, follow the instructions how to hook your phone to your PC and you will see that is considered parked, because the Desktop Head Unit emulator feeds sensor 10 and 11 correctly to Android Auto. So if you want to get that feature working, start banging on to the developers of the Headunit/Car for a software update which addresses this issue.
P.S. I'm NOT working for Google and I'm not defending them I'm presenting the facts behind the scene.

It definitely will depend on the signals that the head unit is feeding AA. Another example is when using Google Maps - if I stop the car and put it into Park, the entry box shows up at the top of the UI so that I can type an address. When I start moving, that box disappears.

That said, I have never seen an option in GPM to scroll through artists...parked or otherwise!
