Hello

I have the Nexus 6p and have been using it fine with no hassle, 7.1.2 version of android (non root).

For some reason as of this morning my GPS has gone out of whack and puts me in two different locations Intermittently, but about 325km apart.

I have never been to this other location, and have done a full phone reset and reinstall but the problem persists unless the phone is restricted to "device only" mode for location.

Otherwise everything couple of minutes it flips between the two locations about 325km apart - the weird thing is, when it shows me in a location 325km away, it says it has an accuracy of within 10meters, how strange!

Anyway, I know the silly answer is leave it in device only GPS mode, but what wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar? :)

(The blue dot in my image is where I actually am, the red line indicates the phantom position GPS keeps putting me when not in device only mode).

I should add, I have gone into Google account and have no other devices pinging a location under the same account details.. and the same happens when the phone is in safe mode.

I have been into Google technical support and they are perplexed too haha.

Thanks for the input GSDer, it registered the satellites, but when I had the device set to high accuracy, it still offset me to Leicester (325 km away)... Whilst thinking it was accurate to withing a couple meters haha.

I'll leave the phone in device only mode so I can at least have the gps be semi accurate until I find a fix - which I will post here as soon as I do.

Just to show the level of offset, and how accurate the phone thinks it is I'll upload 2 screenshots below. (Note, my actual location is down in the bottom left of the map in a city called Plymouth).

Did you try reloading the satellite almanac? Hamburger menu -> AGPS - > Clear and update

Edit: Actually, now that I look closer at your problem description, that's not going to help - the problem doesn't seem to be with your GPS, since in 'Device only' mode (which is when it's working correctly) it's only using the GPS.

It looks like you're getting bogus location data from either your WiFi connection or your cellular connection. Pretty easy to eliminate the suspects - put your phone in Airplane mode (no cellular or WiFi connections) and then turn WiFi back on and see where it puts you. Then turn Airplane mode off (cellular and WiFi back on) and then turn WiFi off and see where it puts you. BTW, you should do these with the 'High accuracy' setting enabled.

I'm betting something is wonky with your cellular network.
