Smart Switch Question

My husband's new S26U came in early directly from Samsung but had not tried to set up due to knee surgery. Yesterday afternoon he finally backed up his phone to his laptop and then used Smart Switch wirelessly. It took quite awhile so he let transfer finish overnight. This morning it appeared everything was finished but when he opened the new phone most of the app icons were "dim" and when you touched one it takes you over to the Play Store to install. He's freaking out thinking something went wrong so he hands me the phone. I noticed the download arrow at the top is active and checked it and it appears Play Store is downloading the apps?

I typically do the Smart Switch thing om our phones but this year he wanted to try himself. Smart Switch has always worked pretty much flawlessly for me but we haven't upgraded phones since the S23U so has something changed? He left his physical SIM in his S23U and was going to switch it over once his S26U was looking and feeling like his old phone.

Meanwhile I'm still waiting on my new phone from Best Buy...

Most everyone agrees that SIM goes in first. I smart switched 4 phones now and they are wanted the SIM first. The S26Us wouldn't even go past a certain step in the transfer without the SIM present.

Yeah at one point in the set-up process it ask for esim transfer or sim , I did it when it prompted but had the option not to and do later.
