GPS defaults to High Accuracy!

I showed in the marshmallow battery thread where my GPS is going krazy and causing the Android System to suck my battery dry around the clock.
I am posting a new thread because I think my subject with this will get a quicker and better response....not being tucked away in the other thread.

The problem is......I turn on my GPS and then set the location mode to be "Battery Saving". Use what ever app (g-maps or something like weather) that needs GPS and then after I'm done with the app use, I turn off the GPS. Later when I turn the GPS back on and check the location mode settings.....it is set back to "High accuracy" and keeps defaulting to that no matter if I set it to Battery Saving or Device sensors only.

Anyone experience this?

Yes, have had the same issue. My solution is to use gps only & leave location on. Does not appear to affect battery life. I also use "Greenify" to force stop apps that drain battery when I am not using them (takes just 1 click). Have also removed permission to use location on apps that I think don't need it.

I'd wager it's an app misbehaving. I know this isn't the answer you want to hear. What version of the G4 are you using?

This worked for me. I doubt it is the best or most efficient method.
1. Don't make any changes. Charge to 100% before you go to sleep. What is the battery level the next morning? Take a screenshot of the app % like you did in the other thread.
2. Clean up your phone for the sake of testing. The first thing I'd do is get rid of Greenify and any other battery/power related apps. Disable or deinstall if that's the only option. Easy enough to reinstall later. Also get rid of fb, snapchat, Twitter, etc. and anything you can live without. In other words remove all of the "fun" from your device. Wifi leave on, Bluetooth turn off. Leave sync on. Charge to 100% before you go to sleep, leave the phone on and see what it is the next morning. Take the screenshot.
3. How does it compare? What about the GPS? If you're happy with the results add back essential apps a few at a time.

If you do nothing, actively developed apps that are the problem will improve over time with updates, and the next update to Android may help.

Yes. Every time the GPS is turned on it always starts in the high accuracy mode. Each time you need to change it to something else if you so desire.
This is certainly not well designed behavior.

I miss my Nexus 6 so much................... For me it is not acceptable....design wise or other. It just does not compute! :p

I just got the 7.0 Nougat upgrade and this issue appears to have been resolved. Now, whichever setting you choose, it "sticks" through multiple off/on cycles of Location button. Nexus 6P.
