GPS driving me CRAZY

if it's one thing that bothers me about the Droid, it's the GPS. I like it...when it works which isn't often sadly.

a few weeks ago, it began to lag when I would initiate navigation. Now, it will take 10 - 20 minutes to "Search for GPS". I'm typically in my car but I will have full service otherwise. I called some number to "reactivate" my phone and that didn't help much at all.

Now, it's also giving me COMPLETELY wrong directions. I blame google maps for this because I had that same problem with it on my BB Curve.

If you have any advice on how to fix this, let me know please

It might just be your area. Have you tried a 'real' GPS unit (Garmin, TomTom, etc.) to see how quickly they acquire signal and how accurate everything is?

Make sure you have your phone set to use Sat. and cell tower for location, too; helps in getting a signal quicker. Or at least it seems to for me. As for directions... well... yeah. GPS units (I've found) are dodgy sometimes; especially with street addresses. The geocoding isn't up to snuff yet. And maps aren't up-to-day updated that I'm aware of; there's going to be some error involved.

If you're not finding a GPS signal at all, call VZW and make sure your provisioning is all right (had a problem before with my BB where they had to turn on the GPS capability on their end for some reason).

It's so strange that you mention that because that's when I noticed the change. When I first got the phone, it would kick in almost immediately.

its a common problem apparently. i am having the same issue, and there a complaint thread about it on the android dev page. i would think (hope?) that google is working on a fix
