GPS Getting worse

After using my D INC which seemed to lock on to position almost immediately, my Thunderbolt is turning out to be a slug!! At least in the beginning, it would be slow to lock on, but now after a few weeks it's actually getting worse (NYC and suburbs). I can't seem to get anymore accurate than 500 feet and it is almost always a few blocks off in the city. I've tried turning on and off the various GPS options (VZW location or not etc..) I don't enable wifi so my battery doesn't croak in 10 seconds. I know this has been discussed, but has anyone (especially in a major metro area) figured out how to get GPS working well. I actually use google nave a fair amount, Thanks

download gps status and clear your cached gps data. That seems to do the trick for me.

Ditto.

Open GPS Status.
Menu\Tools\Manage A-GPS State\Reset.
Menu\Tools\Manage A-GPS State\download

This is a temp fix, but it works great. Mine hasn't had issues locking on...but this does make it lock on even faster.

If your GPS is cold (you haven't used it a for a few days) try this again.
But if you use GPS everyday, it stays warm, in other words...it knows where the satellites are.

What phone and OS are you using?

I don't see "Menu\Tools\Manage A-GPS State\Reset."

I see "Menu\Settings\"

OK, I see, first you download some app called GPS Status...........

Correct...and once I did the Menu\Tools\Manage A-GPS State\Reset
Menu\Tools\Manage A-GPS State\download I layed my phone flat so that the colored dot is in the middle of the radar thing and the whole bottom portion will have a bunch of number. That's when I know it's locked in. When you open it you'll see what I'm saying.

my situation is a little different. When I use 'maps' My location is off by about 200 feet. Is there any kind of fix for this? It has me in located in the house next door rather then my house. Any ideas would be great, thanks :)

What is interesting for me is that GPS lock is REALLY FAST on Google Maps.

GPS lock on Google Navigation is.... sloooooooww..

I tried this numerous times (I drive a lot) and the results are always consistent with the above. Would clearing the cache via GPS Status apps helps on Google Navigation?

Google Maps? FAST! Google Nav? Slow as FFFF. I've done the GPS Status trick and that didn't work. Nyuck nyuck!

Have you downloaded and installed GPS Status as mentioned above.
Maps uses GPS as well as cell phone towers to triangulate.
Clear and download new data as said above...then go walk outside.

I know my work is OLD, solid brick and my signal inside isn't so great.

If I walk outside...it locks and is dead on within seconds.

Not to sound like a smart ass....but how often are you going to actually use maps to tell you you're in your house? Try it outside.

Thanks for the tips in this thread, following a 2 week road trip where I used my GPS a lot, it has been acting up, I have used GPS Status but never realized you could restart the GPS and clear out old data. GPS works like a champ again!

It doesn't bother me to have to reset GPS data when I use the Navigation system.

When I used my TOMTOM (which I gave to my G/F since I got this phone) once a week I'd plug it into my computer and get/download GPS Fix. That was TomTom's version of uploading where the satellites were.

I know you could argue that a GPS is a dumb, stand alone device without a cell service, etc....but it's not a big deal.
It takes 15 seconds to clear and download the data it needs.

And it locks instantly for me...every time.

Is the Network connection to download FB, etc. different from the GPS connection?

Yes. Unless you are using a location service (like foursquare) to pinpoint and report in on your location.

You only need a data connection to use Facebook itself.

Got a 6meg update today that seems to have fixed mine. Gps locks right in.
