GPS icon and battery

I have an S6 on android 7.0 and I noticed that the GPS sign in the status bar sometimes goes away while the location services are still activated. I assumed this meant it wasn't in use but I'm not sure so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if my battery will be drained while location services are turned on but the icon isn't showing in the status bar. Thanks in advance

Unlock your SGs6 and swipe down the icons Panel. Check if the
GPS called Location in latest models & symbolised by a water Drop

is On - If not Tap it to Turned On: The location icon is viewed too
beside the Weather app it display the Phone current location

Regarding if these tools drained the battery,.Not much I kept them
Enabled all the time in my SGs7: I keep disabled Wi-Fi + Bluetooth

Battery will drain only when gps icon is visible.
