Hi,

I need somebody to recommend me an app. There are a lot of them who (claim to) do what I need, but if somebody could spare me the hours of testing each one of them, it would be nice.

So, I need an app primarily for tracking GPS locations. My colleagues have to visit a fair amount of places within the city (100+), and make notes of the GPS location and items on locations. Tracking other data as well would be a great option, like taking a photo and somehow connecting/attaching it to the location. Data will be used for making an online map with locations and items on location.

MUST

  • easy way to track locations (open app, press "save location")
  • export to Excel with additional data like items (kml would do, but it's kind harder to edit - locations might not be 100% accurate)
  • be free

WOULD BE GREAT IF IT HAD

  • ability to track items on location - there are 4 possible items, one location can have from 1 to all 4
  • ability to take photos and maybe even notes, and somehow retaining the connection between them and locations once they are output to excel (even just naming them according to location would be good)

The app will be used by people who are not really technically skilled.

I've never seen any app like that since the days of Nextel phones. But it would be a good idea if you could get an independent developer interested in developing one. (The output should be csv, not "Excel", to make it more widely usable, but Excel can read in a csv file and save it as a spreadsheet.) Locations will be within about 30 feet, because GPS isn't any more accurate than that.

Oh, and it won't be free - no one develops an app for someone else for free - but if the developer retains rights to the app (in other words, he can sell it on Play), it might not be too much.

Forget both "would be great" functions, unless you want to pay full development cost - those turn it from a good general purpose app into an app that only you would want, and be prepared to pay normal software development prices (probably $5,000 to start).

Hmmm, not sure what you mean there, since I've found lots of apps that do that, I just hoped somebody can recommend ones that are good, to save me countless hours in testing each one.
