Gps turning off when screen off.

[Android Central Question]

I have android nougat on elephone s8. I want to use the voice directions of a nav app when cycling, with the phone in my pocket. However the GPS deactivates after a few seconds after I put it in my pocket, resulting in a "signal lost" message.
I've turned off all battery save options and set the spa to non-power optimised. I've also used various apps that should keep the GPS active in the background, but nothing works.
Is it possible that the GPS sensor itself does not have permission to stay active when the phone screen is off? Can I change this?
Have I missed something?

I've been having same problem with my golf gps app but nobody seem to have an answer help anyone.

If it occurs when the phone is placed in your pocket, there's a setting to stop that from happening. Untogglle it.

You need to keep the app awake for some things. Go to Settings and select not to sleep while active. That should keep your GPS running.
