Why do the North American and eu s7's have different gpu's? I noticed they do that in other phones too
Hello and welcome to Android Central
eiiyy!
All Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones, worldwide, have the octa core Exynos 8890 chip, dubbed, "
The Beast from the East", and paired with the Mali-T880 MP12, GPU... except for 2 countries, the USA and China.
Both these countries still have large CDMA/TD-SCDMA networks, as opposed to the worldwide GSM standard. China Mobile's TD-SCDMA is similar to the U.S. CDMA. Since Samsung's own Exynos chip has a built-in modem, (the radio that receives calls, texts, etc: ), that is geared to the 194 countries worldwide that use GSM, they had to come up with an alternative chip with a built-in modem that is compatible with CDMA/TD-SCDMA. The logical choice for this was the latest quad core, Qualcomm chip, Snapdragon 820 with the Adreno 530 GPU, which Samsung manufacture on behalf of Qualcomm. Also, Qualcomm is the major shareholder in CDMA technology.
