How is your phone body holding up? I'm presuming the black finish is a coating of some kind?

Thinking of getting another 6P but in graphite this time, just concerned it might be more prone to wear than the aluminium version that I had previously?

**UPDATE**
Graphite 6P bought, received, love it. Can't believe I ever sent back my original aluminium 6P.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I can't really say because I'll probably never know how durable it is. I had in a case a few minutes after it arrived. I know that doesn't answer your question but what I'm trying to say is that all aluminum phones in general tend to show a lot of ugly wear and tear over the course of a year so I'd case it asap regardless of what the color is.

True. I suspect the aluminium version will hold up better but I do like the graphite...

I say go with your gut and get the color you want the most, just keep it in a case and you'll be fine no matter what color you choose. There's a lot of nice clear cases that show off the back of the phone in the case sticky thread. My favorite so far is Spigen's.

I also am considering graphite over the aluminum I returned.

In the end, I always have some sort of case on the phone and I never look at the back of the phone.

I did have a back experience with the iPhone 5s gray scratching off from dust INSIDE the case.

It's an anodized finish. It's not paint so it won't chip or anything. Unless you really abuse the phone, there shouldn't be any problems.

I've seen many space grays that look awful which is exactly why I have been thinking about it.

I've dropped mine a couple of times. Never had a case on it and no screen protector. A couple of dings but nothing major. I want to see how durable it is without a case.....little experiment

6P

No case. Carry it in my pocket or it sits on my desk. Not a scratch on it after 6 weeks. Very pleased so far

Very paranoid when I carry without case. Always make sure the phone is the only thing in my pocket and always place it down carefully on the table... Had an iPhone 5 that was in the case a d got scratched up from the debris that made its way in. The case wasn't on all that tight though.

I put mine in a case the moment I took it out of the box. Just paranoid.... My Nexus 6... did the same thing, case the entire time. Then, one day, I took it out to apply a Toast wooden back skin to help out in a review of the thing. Well, wouldn't you know it, 15 minutes later to leave my house, bend down to help my son tie his shoes and out popped my Nexus 6, on to the concrete floor of my porch. Ended up with a circular crack on the screen across the top right corner. Nothing wrong with the screen, but with either a $175 deductible or a $200 repair, bleh.... The way it hit, the case would have taken enough of the blow to save the screen.

So my 6P went in its case ASAP, and there it shall stay.

Though, that crack kicked off a chain of events that lead for it to be feasible to get the 6P AND keep my Nexus 6, so its not all bad.

Mine is in a case since release. It still looks like it is in mint condition. My only worry is the dust the case will collect over time. Dust can cause micro scratches.

We are not in the HTC Thunderbolt days... I sort of wish I had asked this question about the Thunderbolt back then, but I was in line on the first day buying my Thunderbolt... now that was 5 years ago. Things have changed just a little over the last 5 years, and the outside of the devices is no longer plastic that might flake off with use.

The metal finish on the 6P is a lot better than the Moto X (2014), but I never saw any issues with my Moto X. This will hold up... now that is coming from any and everybody that has only had the device for about 2 months. I ordered my 6P on the first day within minutes of the Play Store having these available... sort of like the Thunderbolt days. Only time will tell, but this is a very nice device... and might be the best Android device I have ever owned.

I carry mine naked M-F but I'll slap a case on it on the weekends. Got mine in early November and no issues with the color. Can't say how it will survive a drop but mine still looks good as new.

I keep it in a case. One thing I will say is when I have it out, which is every now and then in bed or on the couch, I haven't accumulated the fingerprints like some people have noticed. I keep my hands pretty clean 24/7, and I assume the frost and aluminum get even less, but it's really been a non issue for me.

I carry it half the time naked and the other half with a case. So far it looks as pristine as the day I got it.

Thanks all. Graphite 6P ordered and hopefully arriving tomorrow. Looking forward to getting a 6P back again. Should never have returned the first one.
