Great article on Androids "openness"

Really great article which makes a very good point that I don't think a lot of people really think about. Thanks for the post!

Would be interesting to see how many people are actually happy with their "bloatware". Theres definitely people out there who bought an android phone and love what HTC or Motorola has pre-loaded on their phone. We only hear from people who complain about it but im sure there are tons of happy customers who are enjoying their phone without rooting it, theyre just not as vocal.

I'm one of those people I'm not huge in this forum as far as posting goes. However I do read tons of threads here, and see what you're saying about people complaining of bloatware. I love my Evo 4G sense UI. and most of my friends love their Droid X, Evo's, hero's captivates and what have you, they do t know or care about vanilla software.

There is a difference in the bloatware on a phone versus a PC. On a PC the PC maker gets money from the bloatware provider but the bloatware can usually be removed without much hastle. On a phone the bloatware is more directly connected to the carrier and there cash flow plans AND they often make it difficult to remove the crap.

I'd prefer to be able to add only the software I want. At this point I'm OK with sense on my Evo but the other crap from Sprint should be flushed.

@dmevis Thanks for the link.

@brian The bloatware can be removed if you are willing to root your device. That said it voids the warranty on the phone.
